All appearances to the contrary notwithstanding, Trump "not picking a fight" with Mayor of London

The White House says President Trump isn't "picking a fight" with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

A spokeswoman is blaming media bias for the attention devoted to two separate messages on Twitter in which President Trump said the Mayor was making a "pathetic excuse" for comments in which he urged people not to be alarmed by additional security measures on the streets of the British capital.

From Washington, Simon Marks reports.

Trump associates try to defend president's use of social media

White House officials are trying to defend U.S. President Donald Trump's use of social media, and especially twitter, at a time when the White House staff has struggled to issue formal statements.

Senior Advisor Kellyanne Conway has tried to dismiss concerns about what President Trump is saying on twitter as merely an obsession of American political reporters, at a time when those very same reporters point out that these are public statements by the American president.

National Security assistant Sebastian Gorka (who is controversial unto himself) told CNN that the president's tweets are not official policy.
