U.S. 1st Quarter growth weakest in three years

The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 0.7% in the first
quarter of 2017 marking its lowest rate of growth for three years.

Weak consumer spending is a large reason for the weak data but
economists do expect the economy to pickup later in the year.

Russia bans opposition movement ahead of weekend protests

Russian authorities have banned an opposition political movement on the eve of nationwide anti-Kremlin protests. The "Open Russia" organization was founded by Mikhail Khodorkovsky, exiled former oligarch and one of Russia's President Vladimir Putin's most vocal critics. The movement was declared an "undesirable organization" representing a threat to the state. Our correspondent Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.

WOMAN SHOT IN TERROR RAIDS IN LONDON

A woman's been shot in an anti-terror raid in London.

The woman in her 20s is now in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Six people were arrested in total after the raid in north-west London and a related operation in Kent in south east England.

The arrests were made on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts.

Police say it's not connected to an arrest in Westminster on Thursday of a man also suspected of terrorist offences.

Human Rights Watch calls for legal action against India's "cow protectors"

Human Rights Watch is urging Indian authorities to prosecute self-appointed "cow protectors" who have carried out violent attacks against individuals.

There has been a increase in such incidents against those suspected of being involved in beef trade, with Hindus considering the cow to be a holy animal.

Trump Warns of ‘Major, Major’ Conflict with N. Korea, Praises Xi Jinping

US President Donald Trump has said a 'major' conflict with North Korea could be possible, amid a standoff over its nuclear and missile programmes, but added that he still wants to resolve the crisis peacefully.

Speaking to the Reuters news agency in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump also praised his Chinese counterpart for his handling of Pyongyang.

Venezuelan Opposition Rejects Government's Plans to Leave OAS

Venezuela's  opposition-led National Assembly staged a special session in an open air basketball arena, to reject the Venezuelan government's decision to withdraw from the Organization of American States. 
The OAS promotes democracy and human rights among member states and it has been critical of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

United Airlines reaches financial settlement with passenger dragged off plane

United Airlines has reached a financial settlement with the doctor who was dragged off one of the company's overbooked flights earlier this month.

White House blames Obama administration over Flynn scandal

The White House is defending itself against questions over whether it did proper background checks on disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The Pentagon has announced an investigation into whether Mr Flynn, a retired military officer, broke the law by receiving money from Russia.

This follows other investigations by Congress into the payments.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said it was appropriate for the Defense Department to investigate the matter, but he blamed the former Obama administration for giving Mr Flynn a security clearance that the incoming adminisatration relied upon.

Mr Flynn has reportedly offered to testify about other Trump administration dealings with Russia in exchange for immunity, but this offer is yet to be accepted.
