Thousands march to support scientists

Americans in more than 600 communities turned out to support science, with tens of thousands marching in a steady rain through the American capital.

They are protesting the proposed budget cuts which would slash support for basic research.

Ironically, the White House published a statement on Earth Day just as the marchers passed the place where Donald Trump lives.

US VP Pence in Australia "mending fences"

US Vice-President Mike Pence has told Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull he is visiting Australia to reaffirm the strong ties between the two countries.
At the start of talks in Sydney, Mr Pence said US President Donald Trump wanted him to be in Australia early in the administration.

Venezuelans Riot and Clash with Police

Venezuelans are bracing themselves for another round of demonstrations and clashes with police. 

At least twelve people died during a night of riots, looting and clashes between government opponents and the National Guard.

Pres. Trump promotes tax reform measures

U.S. President Donald Trump is promoting his efforts at tax reform, signing three executive orders.

In signing the three orders, he repeated many of his common themes of saving and protecting American jobs, increasing investment and making the global community pay its fair share.

Michigan doctor, wife arrested over female genital mutilation

A doctor in Michigan and his wife have been arrested for their alleged role in the first prosecutable case of female genital mutilation in the U.S.

An emergency room doctor believed to be involved has also been arrested.

Exxon Mobil denied US government waiver to skirt Russia sanctions

President Trump has denied a request by the oil company Exxon Mobil for a waiver that would allow them resume drilling operations in the Black Sea.


Those operations came to an end when the Obama administration slapped sanctions on Moscow.

Tesla recalls 53,000 cars worldwide


US electric car manufacturer Tesla is recalling over 50,000 cars globally.

The Elon Musk-run firm says about two percent of the cars are affected by a parking brake malfunction.

US Attorney General criticizes state of Hawaii after judge blocks executive order on immigration

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has criticized the federal court of
Hawaii, after the court's decision last month to block President
Trump's travel ban.

Speaking on a radio show, Attorney General Sessions said he was amazed
that a judge on an "island in the Pacific" can issue an order that

US prisoner released from Egypt detention

An Egyptian-American charity worker who was detained in Cairo for three years has returned to the U.S.  

The "Washington Post" says 30-year-old Aya Hijazi, her Egyptian husband and four other humanitarian workers were set free after the Trump administration negotiated for their release.

Syria still has chemical weapons says U.S. defense secretary

The Syrian government has retained chemical weapons and dispersed its warplanes in recent days, according to US Defence Secretary James Mattis.

Former England Footballer Dies Aged 44



Former England footballer Ugo Ehiogu (YOU-GO E-He-OHGU) has died aged 44.


The Tottenham hotspurs under 23s coach suffered a cardiac arrest at the club's training centre and died the following day in hospital.

For the second time this year, Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her birthday.


After her 'official' birthday in June. Today, is her actual 91st birthday.


Buckingham palace has released a photo of the queen as a baby, while a military salute was put on to mark the occasion.

Man believed to have links to Paris shooting hands himself in in Antwerp

A man who was flagged up for potential involvement in the shooting in Paris has handed himself into police in the Belgian city of Antwerp.

The gunman who killed a police officer and wounded two others on the Champs Elysees was subsequently killed by police at the scene.

Paris Shooting: Security beefed up ahead of French Election

It's believed the man who shot dead a policeman on Paris'  Champs Elysee, had been known to French police and was the focus of an anti-terror probe.


Two officers were also wounded in the attack, before the assailant was shot dead by secuirty forces as he attempted to run away from the scene.


The incident has taken place just day's before the first round of France's Presidential elections, on Sunday. And France's incumbent President Francois Holland is chairing a security cabinet meeting

Russia says it has developed a better version of banned meldonium drug

Russia's state medical agency says it has developed a 'more effective' replacement for the controversial drug meldonium.
