British MPs are voting on a motion authorizing an early general election, to be held on June 8th
Prime minister Theresa May surprised her political party and opponents alike with her request to hold an election 3 years early, a decision she made despite repeated assurances in the past that she would not.
The opposition Labour and the Liberal Democrat parties have pledged to back the early election, so Mrs May is likely to get the two thirds of lawmakers needed to trigger the ballot.
Mrs May began Prime Minister's Question Time by telling MPs the Conservatives will take their vision for the future to the country.
