US Senate "goes nuclear" to move Gorsuch nomination forward

U.S. Senate Republicans have voted in favor of changing the rules, invoking the 'nuclear option' to move the nomination of Neil Gorsuch to join the U.S. Supreme Court to a final full floor vote.

Many expect the move to radically change politics in the upper chamber, possibility eliminating bipartisan compromise.

Senior US lawmaker steps aside from Russia probe [Clips]

The chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee has removed
himself from their investigation into Russia's alleged meddling in
last year's presidential election.

The announcement comes on the same day the House Committee of Ethics
revealed that Devin Nunes is under investigation due to public reports
that he may have made unauthorized disclosures of classified
information.

Nunes says the claims are entirely false and politically motivated but
adds that it's in the panel's best interest if he temporarily removes
himself from the Russia probe.

House speaker Paul Ryan says the Ethics Committee investigation is a
distraction but is standing by Nunes.

First in-person meeting for Presidents Trump & Xi

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to host China's President Xi Jinping for their first in-person meetings at Mar-A-Lago, Florida.

The two men have spoken over the phone and the agenda for the 24 hours of talks is expected to include dinner but not golf at the president's club.

Christopher Johnson was with the CIA focusing on Asia issues before joining the bipartisan Center for Strategic and International Studies as a China scholar.

UK Supreme Court Rules on School Absence Fines

The UK's Supreme Court has ruled against a father who was fined for taking his child out of school to go on holiday.


Jon Platt was issued a £120 penalty (150 dollars) for the unauthorised term-time absence.

Sec. Tillerson blames Assad for chemical attack

Trump: Syria attack "unacceptable", is leading to change "attitude toward Syria"

US President Donald Trump says that he's changing his attitude towards Syrian President Bashar al Assad in the aftermath of Tuesday's chemical attack on civilians in the north of the country.


He called the attack an "affront to humanity" but stopped short of explaining how his policy towards Syria might shift.
