May says Brexit could make the UK stronger amid Scottish calls for an independence referendum

British Prime Minister Theresa May has pledged that Brexit could make the UK's union stronger and will not mean the country stepping back from the world.

Her comments come ahead of a meeting with Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who has called for a second independence referendum amid anger that Scotland voted overwhelmingly not to leave the EU.  The British leader is due to trigger Brexit this week.

The meeting could be tense as Theresa May has refused to be drawn on the issue of a referendum for Scotland, other than to say that now is not the right time to hold one.

In a speech to staff at the Department for International Development in Scotland, the British leader said Brexit was an opportunity to strengthen ties with other nations.

May to meet Sturgeon for first time since second independence referendum call

British Prime Minister Theresa May is traveling to Scotland and will meet the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for the first time since the Scottish leader called for a second referendum on independence.

The meeting comes just days ahead of the planned triggering of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty..... the formal notice that Britain intends to leave the European Union.   This will set a two year deadline on negotiations for the UK's future relationship with the bloc.

Scotland voted overwhelming to remain part of the EU and Ms Sturgeon says the Scottish people have a right to decide their future.

Theresa May is expected to tell an audience in Scotland that she wants to build a more united nation as Rebecca Cook reports.

United States Vice President Mike Pence has fueled speculation that
the Trump administration will move it's embassy in Israel from Tel

Donald Trump backed the move during the presidential campaign but has
backed off the issue somewhat since becoming president.
