ROYAL ASSENT GIVEN TO BREXIT BILL

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has given Royal Assent for the government's Brexit Bill.

This means Prime Minister Theresa May is now authorised to hit Article 50, triggering exit negotiations with Brussels.

FTSE 100 reaches record high


The  UK's FTSE 100 index of leading companies has hit a record high following a cut in interest rates by the US Federal Reserve and the results of the Dutch elections.   (It currently stands at over 7 thousand and forty points for the first time).

Toyota to invest in UK factory

Japanese carmaker Toyota is to invest almost 300 million dollars in a British factory, despite a recent downturn in investment commitments in the UK's automotive sector last year.


The money will be used to upgrade its production manufacturing system.

Poor Performance from Wilders is Cheered by EU Leaders

Explosive-filled package mailed to German finance minister came from Greece

Greek police confirmed that a package containing explosives, which was mailed to Germany's finance minister, originated in Greece.

UK CONSERVATIVES FINED OVER ELECTION SPENDING

The UK's governing Conservative Party has been fined a record £70,000 / $85 000 by the country's Electoral Commission for breaking election spending regulations.

It follows what the Commission says were 'numerous failures' to report expenses related to three by-elections in 2014, and 2015's general election.

The Conservative Party says these were administrative errors.

Russian de-mining experts arrive in Syria after Astana talks

Trump Doubles Down On Obama Wiretap Claim

US President Donald Trump has defended his unsubstantiated claim that Barack Obama tapped the phones at Trump Tower during the election campaign. 

It comes as the Republican Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said he didn't believe there was a wiretap. 

But speaking to Fox News, the President said that the term 'wiretap' could cover several things.

Trump Budget Sees Drastic Cuts to Aid and Environment

US President Donald Trump will ask Congress for drastic cuts to spending on environmental programmes, public broadcasting, the arts and foreign aid, to fund more spending on the military.

Trump Hits Out At Travel Ban Block as 'Judicial Overreach'

US President Donald Trump has criticised a ruling from a federal court in Hawaii, blocking his revised travel ban just hours before it was set to come into force.

Court in Hawaii blocks Trump's revised "travel ban"

US President Donald Trump's latest attempt to introduce a travel ban has been stopped in its tracks by the courts.


The President's revised measure was about to come into force when a court in Hawaii blocked it, calling the measure "fundamentally flawed".

American fuel economy standards to be reviewed

American President Donald Trump has announced a review of car fuel economy regulations brought in by the previous Obama administration.

Speaking to auto workers in Detroit, Mr Trump said current goals were damaging to the US car industry and to American jobs.
