UN accuse Syrian air force of committing war crime

A United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry has found that the
Syrian air force intentionally targeted a water source near the
capital Damascus.

The strike cut off water for around 5.5.million people and the UN say
the move constitutes a war crime.

MAY: BREXIT TO BE TRIGGERED BY END OF MONTH

UK Prime Minister Theresa May says she remains on course to trigger formal Brexit negotiations by the end of this month.

It follows the passage through Parliament of the government's so-called 'Brexit Bill' which gives her the authority to invoke Article 50.

That will lead to two years of talks with Brussels on the UK's future relationship with the EU.

Storm Stella dumps snow & ice on US

Top EU court upholds employers right to ban headscarves

Europe's top court has ruled employers are allowed to ban their staff from wearing political, philosophical or religious signs - including the Islamic headscarf.

The case was started when a firm in Belgium and another in France fired female staff for wearing a headscarves at work.

BREXIT BILL BECOMES LAW

The UK's Brexit legislation has passed Parliament.

It means Prime Minister Theresa May can now trigger Article 50 which will start formal negotiations with the European Union on the UK's exit from the bloc.

She's expected to do that at the end of March.

First Merkel-Trump meeting postponed

The first meeting between German chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. president Donald Trump has been postponed due to a snowstorm on the east coast of the United States.

South Australian backpacker trial hears horrific stories of attacks

A court in South Australia has heard that a backpacker who was allegedly hit with a hammer four times and rammed with a 4WD at a remote beach was drenched "head to toe" in blood.
But when Salt Creek roadhouse owner Adam Stewart held the young woman, looked into her eyes and told her she was safe, the badly injured tourist smiled.

Third round of Syria talks due in Astana

Syrian rebel factions said they would not attend a new round of negotiations with Syrian government figures due to start in the Kazakh capital. The third round of talks on Syria are due to take place on 14-15 March in Astana.  Russia, Turkey and Iran, the main organisers of the talks, have pressed ahead despite a request from Syrian opposition to delay the meeting. DPRK to keep pursuing nuclear capability if US-South Korea drills continue, says UN ambo

Pyongyang will continue to pursue nuclear capability as long as the US and South Korea carry on their joint military exercises, the North Korean ambassador to the United Nations told journalists Monday.


Ambassador Kim In Ryong said Pyongyang has the right to defend itself, and that UN Security Council sanctions are devoid of legal ground.

New footage sparks protests in Ferguson

Fresh footage has emerged of Michael Brown hours before the unarmed
black teenager was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson,
Missouri back in 2014.

Police at the time released footage that appeared to show Brown
robbing a convenience store shortly before his death but this new
video raises questions about the incident.

His death sparked huge demonstrations across the country with people
taking to the streets to protest the police's use of force against
African Americans.

The UK government's Brexit legislation has passed through Parliament, meaning Prime Minister Theresa May is now able to start negotiations on leaving the European Union.

Northeastern US Braces For Blizzard

The north east of the US is bracing itself for a fast-moving winter storm to hit on Tuesday, with airlines pre-emptively cancelling around 4000 flights and mayors ordering many schools to stay closed.

The National Weather Service has issued storm or blizzard warnings for parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, covering some 50 million people.

Forecasts are predicting up to 2 feet (60cm) of snow in some areas by early Wednesday, and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency.

He says there are 2000 National Guard troops ready to help deal with the effects of the storm, which is predicted to be historic:

Congressional Budget Office says millions of Americans to lose health insurance under Republican plan

Millions of Americans are at risk of losing their access to healthcare according to an independent review of Republican plans approved by President Trump.


The Congressional Budget Office says the proposed changes to "Obamacare" could see as many as  24 million Americans lose health insurance over the next 10 years.

Intel Buying Mobileye

The computing giant Intel has confirmed it's acquiring a company that's a leader in computer vision for driverless vehicles. Intel is paying $15.3 billion for Mobileye. 

US President Donald Trump holds first cabinet meeting

American President Donald Trump has held his first cabinet meeting, promising a major increase in military spending and a continued clamp-down on migration.

While not all his cabinet nominees have been confirmed, Mr Trump told reporters he was on track to fulfilling election promises, including replacing the healthcare system. He also claimed credit of an for an additional 500 thousand jobs since he took office a month ago.

On immigration, Mr Trump said there had been a 40 percent decrease in illegal migration across the Mexican border since he took office, and said there would be increased vetting of migrants from other countries.

Unidentified Bodies in Mass Grave at Venezuelan Penitentiary

The Venezuelan public prosecutor has confirmed 14 corpses have been found in a mass grave in Venezuela's largest prison. 

 The General Penitentiary of Venezuela was closed in October after a series of violent clashes between inmates, and it is now undergoing renovation.

Donald Trump inviting Chinese President to visit the US in April

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to meet meet American President Donald Trump in Florida next month, in an attempt to defuse tensions between the two countries.

Relations between Washington and Beijing are strained over issues including trade, the South China Sea islands dispute, and America's decision to deploy a missile system in South Korea.

Poland to pursue extradition of Minnesota man for WWII war crimes

Poland says it will pursue the arrest and extradition of a Minnesota man for war crimes committed during World War II.
