"No room for complacency" warns Philip Hammond

Britain's finance minister has warned the country must continue to prepare for it's future outside the European Union as he laid out the national budget.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond  noted that the UK's economic growth forecast has been raised for this year from 1.4 per cent to 2 per cent.   However economic growth forecasts have been revised downwards for 2018 to 2020, when Brexit talks for the UK to leave the European Union are expected to be underway.

Despite forecasts for higher growth and lower borrowing, the minister, affectionately called "Spreadsheet Phil" by colleagues warned that the UK's deficit was still high and productivity low.

And he said the government must remain vigilant about the economic challenges ahead.

President Trump urges support for healthcare bill despite opposition from both parties

A major battle is shaping up in the United States over healthcare reform.

President Trump has endorsed a House Republican plan to replace President Obama's system. If passed, it would no longer be compulsory to have medical insurance, but there would be a system of tax credits to persuade people to enroll.

Democrats have already come out against the plan, but many conservative Republicans also oppose it, saying it doesn't go far enough in removing the government from healthcare.

Mr Trump is urging passage of the bill, saying a major reason he was elected was to repeal and replace Obamacare.

It also sends insurance regulation back to state level, and freezes Medicaid expansion.
