U.S. military “not in Iraq to seize oil”

The US Defense secretary, Jim Mattis, has made his first trip to Iraq as Pentagon chief. 

While holding talks he said that the US military is "not in the country to seize anybody's oil."

Mattis is the highest-ranking US official to visit Iraq since President Trump imposed a controversial travel ban.

The Tanzania Government is banning 40 health clinics from offering HIV treatment, because it says they are promoting homosexuality. Ceasefire begins in eastern Ukraine

A renewed ceasefire is in place in Ukraine following a deal announced at security talks in Munich.

The halt to hostilities between government forces and Russian-backed separatists is the latest in a string of efforts to enforce the two-year-old Minsk peace protocol.

The agreement calls on the two sides to reduce the use of heavy weaponry near the front lines in the conflict.

Trump to issue new travel ban this week

US President Donald Trump's new version of his controversial travel ban will exempt green card holders and visa holders, according to US media.

The new executive order is expected to be issued this week. 

It will reportedly target the same seven Muslim-majority countries as the orignal order - currently held up by federal courts.

Mike Pence Reaffirms US Commitment to EU on Visit to Brussels

US Vice President Mike Pence is in Brussels meeting with leaders of the European Union to try and reassure those worried about US President Donald Trump. 

In the past President Trump has expressed his support for Brexit and other countries leaving the EU, and even called NATO obsolete.

Vice President Pence countered that message in Brussels by saying the US wants to continue and even expand its collaboration with the EU and NATO.

Egypt-Russia flights may resume this week

Russia could resume flights to Egypt this week.

Flights have been grounded since the bombing of a Russian plane over the Sinai Peninsula in 2015 in which all 224 people on board were killed.

African Migrants Jump Fence to Reach Spain

Hundreds of African migrants tried to jump the barb-wire fence on the Ceuta border of Spain and Morocco.

Police say more than 300 migrants broke through one of the gates with shears and clubs and 11 people were hospitalized.
