British MPs pass Brexit bill

British MPs have voted overwhelmingly to allow Prime Minister Theresa May to begin the process of Brexit, the country's departure from the European Union.

MPs voted by 498 votes to 114 to back the governments European Union Bill, which paves the way for the triggering of article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

The bill will face more scrutiny next week from both Houses of Parliament where lawmakers are likely to try to add amendments to the legislation.

The 114 who voted against it were made up of rebel Labour MPs who voted against their leadership. The Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party also rejected it.

Labour MP Dave Anderson said it was a difficult decision for many of his peers.

In an initial vote, British MPs voted overwhelmingly to give Prime Minister Theresa May the authority to launch negotiations to leave the European Union, the so-called Brexit.

The Prime Mininster wants to start talks by the end of March, but the legislation faces further action in the Commons and the House of Lords.

Rival Cyprus leaders ask UN to prep peace talks in March - envoy

White House says Iran is now "on notice"

White House National Security Advisor Michael Flynn says the United States is officially putting Iran "on notice."

The announcement came after Iran tested a medium-range ballistic missile on Sunday.

Mr. Flynn did not specify what steps the US will be taking by placing Iran "on notice", but said more details are to come.

Sessions nomination passes out of committee

The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved Jeff Sessions to be the next U.S. Attorney General on a strict party line vote, 11-9.

Democrats remained adamantly opposed to the nominaton through the vote, and Senators have used obscure committee rules to stall other nominations, including Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin.

Three US states join legal action against travel ban

Three more US States have joined lawsuits challenging President Trump's temporary immigration ban.

New York, Massachusetts and Virginia will add their resources to legal challenges claiming that the president's executive order is unconstitutional.

The immigration directive indefinitely bars Syrian refugees from entering the country and temporarily bans entry for people from seven Muslim-majority countries.
