UN-Syria talks postponed

The United Nations has confirmed the latest round of Syrian peace
talks have been postponed.

The UN's envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said the Geneva talks would
now be held on 20th February.

UN confirms delay of Syria peace talks

The United Nations envoy to Syria has confirmed the long-delayed peace
talks have been further postponed by another two weeks.

Staffan de Mistura said the Geneva talks would now be held on 20th
February to allow more time for a ceasefire to solidify and for the
opposition to form a delegation.

He praised the recent negotiations in Astana, Kazakstan which were
initiated by Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Staffan de Mistura said the postponement was about waiting not canceling.

Pres. Trump pushes cybersecurity initiative

U.S. President Donald Trump wants increased cyber security for the U.S. government, saying that computer systems must be upgraded.

The president himself, does not use email, and only uses his smart phone - which is not a special secured phone - for calls and Twitter.

White House says "it's not a travel ban"

The Trump White House is continuing to insist the executive order on travel visas and immigration is not a travel ban, when President Trump himself has used the phrase, "Muslim ban."

According to reports, it is unclear how the executive order is being implemented, despite efforts by the Department of Homeland Security to allow legal permanent residents - green card holders who are not yet citizens - back in from their overseas travel.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer says the U.S. needs to know more about the people traveling from war-torn nations, such as Syria.

San Francisco Challenges Trump's Executive Order re Sanctuary Cities

The city of San Francisco has filed a lawsuit challenging President Trump's executive order regarding sanctuary cities. 

Many US cities have adopted sanctuary policies that prohibit police from cooperating with immigration authorities.

Homeland Security tries to clarify travel rules

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is trying to clarify the travel rules, calling it a temporary pause, following the executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump on refugees and travel visas.

The executive order has been met with protests around the country, and a variety of court orders blocking some implementation, as it is argued, it is not constitutional.

Four days after President Trump signed an order closing America's borders to citizens from 7 countries, his top officials are calling the move a "temporary pause".

Speaker Ryan defends travel & immigration orders

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Paul Ryan is defending the travel and immigration orders signed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Americans are protesting the orders as unconstititutional, and the travel plans of over 90,000 have been affected, as the refugee program is supposed to be put on hold for 120 days.

Key Democrats not confident Sessions will uphold US Constitution

Key Democrats are not confident that Republican Jeff Sessions will uphold the U.S. Constitution and make difficult choices which go against White House policy if he is confirmed as the next U.S. Attorney General.

Morocco readmitted to African Union

The African Union now has 55 member states after readmitting the Kingdom of Morocco.


Morocco left the Union in 1984 when the AU recognised the independence of Western Sahara that it occupies.

BREXIT DEBATE UNDERWAY

British MPs have started a two-day heated debate on Brexit legislation, ahead of a vote due on Wednesday.

The government was forced to table a Brexit Bill by the UK's Supreme Court.

If it wins approval Prime Minister Theresa May hopes to be able to trigger Article 50, which begins formal negotiations on the UK's exit from the EU, by the end of March.

The bill is expected to pass because MPs from the opposition Labour Party are being ordered to back it.
