Pres. Trump supports torture

U.S. President Donald Trump is standing by his support for the use of torture, including water-boarding, to get information out of detainees.

His new Defence Secretary, retired general James Mattis is adamantly opposed to the use of torture, saying, give him a six pack of beer and a couple of packs of cigarettes and he'd do far better with information-gathering.

President Trump told reporters, he disagrees but he'll defer to general mattis.

Pres. Trump calls for great relationship with Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump says he wants to have a great relationship with all countries including Russia.

His team says he'll be speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin (tomorrow, Saturday, January 28).

His campaign was questioned repeatedly about possible influence by Russian, following Russian hacking into American political institutions.

New relationship with Mexico - Pres. Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump says it's time for a new relationship with Mexico, after a phone call with President Enrique Pena-Nieto.

The Mexican President was the first leader from a neighboring country set to meet with the new American president, but that visit got cancelled after President Trump insisted Mexico would pay for a border wall.

Confirming an hour long phone call between Mexico City and Washington, President Trump says a new relationship is in the works.

German authorities investigating ex-Volkswagen CEO for fraud

Prosecutors in Germany said they are investigating Volkswagen's former CEO Martin Winterkorn [VINTER KORN] for fraud related to the carmaker's diesel emissions scandal.

Winterkorn has denied prior knowledge of the emissions cheating which affected eleven million vehicles worldwide.

On her first day on the job the new US ambassador to the United
Nations has promised a new American vision for the UN.

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley joins the world body at a
time of anti-UN rhetoric from the Trump administration.

Donald Trump has threatened to defund the UN, while fighting for the
rights of US-ally Israel.

Mexico Condemns US 20% Tax Proposal

The Mexican foreign minister has criticised a US proposal to impose a 20% tax on Mexican imports, in order to pay for a border wall planned by President Donald Trump.

Luis Videgaray said the move would mean American consumers ended up footing the bill.

US economy slows with Q4 1.9% growth

The US economy softened in the final quarter of 2016 according to the
latest government figures.

GDP in the fourth quarter came in below estimates at 1.9% growth.

Trump and Putin set to speak this weekend

The Kremlin has confirmed that Russia's President Vladimir Putin is
expected to speak with US President Donald Trump over the phone on
Saturday in what's believed to be their first interaction since
Trump's inauguration.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May will become the first foreign leader to hold face-to-face talks with Donald Trump since he became US President later (Friday).

Russia's FM holding talks with Syrian opposition in Moscow
