Report: Martin Schulz will be Merkel’s election opponent

German media has reported a major shakeup in the country's second largest political party. 

The current Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel will relinquish control of the SPD party to Martin Schulz, who will face chancellor Angela Merkel in elections later this year.

FBI Director ‘To Stay On’ Under Trump

The director of the FBI, James Comey, will be staying in the job under President Donald Trump, that's according to the New York Times newspaper.

The reports say that Mr. Comey told his senior agents at a meeting last week that he'd been asked to continue running the top law enforcement agency.

Russian planes strike IS targets in Syria's Deir al-Zor

UN prepares emergency aid for Mosul

The United Nations has warned it is racing to gather emergency
supplies for civilians caught up in the army offensive on the Iraqi
city of Mosul.

Trump keeps emphasizing jobs

U.S. President Donald Trump says he is fullfilling his promise to bring jobs back to the United States, meeting with American automakers.

Syria peace talks wrap up in Astana

UK Supreme court rules against the government in Brexit case

The UK's highest court says Prime Minister Theresa May must get parliamentary approval before triggering Article 50 which will start Brexit negotiations.

By a majority of 8 to 3 Supreme Court judges said the government must get the backing of MPs to begin the process of leaving the European Union.

Roman Polanski turns down invitation to preside over French film wards after backlash

The film director Roman Polanski won't be presiding over France's most prestigious film awards ceremony - after the French Cinema Academy's decision to appoint him caused a huge controversy.

Syria talks continue in Astana

White House holds first daily press briefing: Inauguration crowds, Russia and TPP

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer insists that President Trump's inauguration was "the most viewed ever", after berating reporters over the weekend for comparing the crowd at President Trump's inauguration with President Obama.
