US tightens standards for organic farming

US agriculture officials have announced stricter standards for farmers who advertise their meat and eggs as "organic."

The new rules aim to improve the welfare of farm animals.

Dozens of Islamic State fighters killed in Libya - US military

The U.S. military believes as many as 80 fighters with the Islamic State in Libya were killed in a series of precision airstrikes on camps southwest of Sirte.

The U.S. says it carried out the airstrikes at the request of Libya's government of national accord.

In his final press briefing, U.S. Defence Secretary Ashton Carter:

Trump's spokesman lays out his agenda for first week in office

Incoming U.S. President Donald Trump is to kill the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal within hours after being sworn in.

In his first press briefing as the new White House spokesperson, Sean Spicer, said Donald Trump's first week in office will focus on dismantling trade deals by executive order- and immigration and tax reform.

Sean Spicer also warned Democrats not to hold up any of Donald Trump's cabinet confirmation hearings.

US confirms airstrikes on Islamic State in Libya

Ex-VW boss denies prior knowledge of emissions cheating

Volkswagen's former CEO Martin Winterkorn [VINTERKORN] has denied being that he was aware of his company's program to cheat emissions tests in its diesel engines.

Up to 30 people trapped after avalanche in central Italy

Rescuers say up to 30 people are missing after a hotel in central Italy was hit by an avalanche, apparently triggered by an earthquake.

Maltese PM wants Turkey-style migration deal with Libya

The European Union should come to a deal with Libya to curb the flow of migrants according to the the Maltese prime minister who is currently holding the EU's rolling presidency.

Russia, Germany and France agree to keep working for peace in Ukraine

Obama warns Trump not to undermine American core values

U.S. President Barack Obama has warned his successor, Donald Trump, not to mess with American democracy.

In an overt warning to the incoming president, Barack Obama signaled  American core values need to be handled with care, and told Donald Trump to seek advice from his advisors- and not operate in an echo chamber.

Addressing the White House press pack for a final farewell, President Obama thanked a sometimes 'skeptical' media, and addressed a wide range of  issues including Russia, Syria, and the Middle East.

And he warned the next administration to think carefully before making any major policy decisions.

Obama will "speak out" if Trump threatens fundamental rights

In his final press conference as president, Barack Obama threatened to speak out if the Trump administration takes action that threatens the fundamental rights of the American people.

Former US President George H. W. Bush and his wife Barbara hospitalized in Texas

Former US President George HW Bush and his wife Barbara have both been admitted to hospital in Texas, after the 92 year-old former President was diagnosed with pneumonia.


The former First Lady is also being treated for fatigue.
