UN: In Syria, ceasefire is holding but humanitarian aid not going into besieged areas

The United Nations has reported that humanitarian aid is being blocked
in some besieged areas of Syria.

This comes as a ceasefire there is largely holding, in a deal struck
between the Syrian, Russian, and Turkish governments.

Rudy Giuliani to Form Trump Cybersecurity Team

Putin trying to break NATO - Mattis

Retired U.S. General James "mad dog" Mattis is prioritizing Russia in his confirmation hearings to become the next U.S. Defence Secretary.

His nomination faces a specific challenge because he has not met the requirement that a candidate be retired from the U.S. military for more than seven years. 

He retired in 2013 and his nickname 'mad dog' is due to some of the statements he made during the Bush Administration's war in Iraq.

Now he is telling the Senate Armed Services Committee, the top challenge is Russia.

CIA nominee promises to not be political

The nominee to be the next director of the Central Intelligence Agency, Representative Mike Pompeo, told the Senate Intelligence Committee that he does not want the agency to be politicized.

He also faced questioning about Russia's interference with the recent American elections.

Representative Pompeo, who has served on the House Intelligence Committee, promised to remain above the fray.

US sanctions Syria over WMD

The Obama administration has laid additional sanctions against Syria and the regime of Bashar al-Assad for the use of weapons of mass destruction.

Despite the removal and destruction of most of Syria's chemical weapons, the have been repeated reports that barrell bombs and mustard gas may have been used against civilians.

Trump: Intelligence Boss Denounced ‘Compromising’ Dossier

Donald Trump has said that a top US spy boss denounced the recent dossier alleging that Russian intelligence has compromising information about the President Elect.

Mr. Trump said James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, called him about the unsubstantiated claims - although earlier on Wednesday, Mr. Clapper said the intelligence community hadn't made a judgement about whether or not they were reliable.

US accuses Fiat Chrysler of emissions violations

US regulators have accused car maker Fiat Chrysler of installing software which violated emissions standards.

The case is similar to the emissions scandal that has surrounded Volkswagen for the last year and a half.

US President-elect Donald Trump claims his country's spy chief has 'denounced' claims Russia has compromising information about him.

Mr Trump has tweeted that Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told him the report published by a US website is 'false and fictitious' as well as being 'illegally circulated'.

On Wednesday Mr Clapper had insisted the US intelligence community had not made a judgement on whether the information is reliable.

A 35 page dossier of information claims Russia has damaging personal and business details about Donald Trump.

Kremlin hope Putin and Trump will get along

A Kremlin spokesperson says there is hope that Russian President

Russia won’t be drawn into arms race- Defense Ministry

Germany's economy grew by one point nine percent last year, beating analyst expectations to record its strongest performance in five years.

Dozens ISIS-linked fighters detained in Russia’s Chechnya

Several dozens of ISIS-linked fighters were detained or eliminated in Russia's Chechnya during a special operation in the North Caucuses republic. The Chechen authorities claim they dismantled a network of terrorists that were active in the region. US troops arrive in Poland

Three thousand US soldiers along with US tanks and armored vehicles are starting to arrive in Poland.

The American soldiers and their equipment are taking part in NATO's Operation Atlantic Resolve—which is a mission to show US commitment as Eastern Europe faces Russian aggression.

Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders near deal in Geneva
