US jobs data weaker than expected

The US economy weakened slightly in December after the latest set of jobs data came in below expectations. 

The figures also showed a slight increase in unemployment.

Trump blasts hacking inquiry "a political witch-hunt"

Donald Trump is calling the storm over claims Russia tried to influence the outcome of the US Presidential election a “political witch-hunt”.

He was speaking ahead of a full intelligence briefing that he’s due to receive later today about what US spy chiefs say was a hacking attack on the Democratic Party orchestrated by Moscow.

MONDAY LONDON TUBE STRIKE ON

President Elect Donald Trump has criticied US media reports that the cost of building a wall along the U.S. Mexico border will fall on American taxpayers.

Trump to get intelligence briefing, US identifies Russian hacking agents

U.S. officials say they know who the agents were behind a string of Russian hacking attacks, aimed at derailing last year's presidential election.

Names have not been made public, but they're accused of dumping stolen emails from the U.S. Democratic party to whistleblowing outfit Wikileaks- in a bid to influence the election in Donald Trump's favour.

Intelligence officials are briefing the incoming Republican president over the claims, ahead of a redacted report to be released next week.

'Soft Brexit' would take Second Scottish Referendum off the table

The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, who said a second Scottish referendum could be on the cards once the UK leaves the EU, now says she would put aside the idea if a 'Soft Brexit' is negotiated.


It comes as welcome news to opposition parties wanting to end the uncertainty over a second Scottish Referendum, however Ms Sturgeon was keen to stress this would be a short-term measure only.

Kremlin tight-lipped over US hacking accusations

Russian officials have given no reaction to media reports about the US intelligence findings presented on Capitol Hill on Thursday proving Washington's claims of Russia's meddling in the US voting system. The Kremlin had previously denied any involvement or meddling  in the American electoral process, but so far remains tight-lipped over the hacking accusations. French prosecutors launch fraud investigation against far-right Front national party

French prosecutors have launched a fraud investigation into the far-right party the Front National.

They are looking into payments payed to assistants supposedly working for the party at the European Parliament who pare suspected of actually being based at the party's HQ in France.

Berlin truck attacker used 14 aliases

Regional German authorities said the Tunisian man who killed twelve people last month at a Berlin Christmas market used at least fourteen different names during his stay in the country. 

Police recently arrested another Tunisian man as a possible accomplice.

STRIKE COULD CAUSE LONDON 'CHAOS'

There are warnings that London's transport network could be 'chaos' on Monday if a planned 24 hour strike goes ahead.

Talks to avoid industrial action broke down on Thursday.

Unions and tube bosses are locked in a row about ticket office closures.

And if they can't find a resolution, then many London Underground stations will be closed from 1800 GMT on Sunday.

Biden to Trump: "Grow Up!"

US Vice President Joe Biden has told Donald Trump to "grow up" after a series of Twitter messages this week in which the President-elect has raised fresh questions about how he plans to govern the country.


In one of his final TV interviews as Vice President, Mr. Biden called the President-elect a "good man" who needs to show Americans that he's got what it takes to succeed Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

Consumer Electronics Show opens in Las Vegas

The world's largest consumer electronics show, CES, kicked off Thursday in Las Vegas, where thousands of companies are unveiling cutting edge products and technologies consumers may use in the near future. Industry experts are also there to explore security measures in place to protect consumers. Patrice Howard reports.

Police in Chicago charge 4 with hate crime after Facebook Live beating

Hate crimes charges have been filed by police in Chicago after the beating of a mentally disabled teenager was broadcast live on Facebook.

Leading Republicans are vowing to hit back against Russia, by drafting tougher sanctions,  over a string of cyber-attacks during last November's presidential race.

Senator John McCain says he 'has no idea' what President-Elect Donald Trump is likely to do on Russia, because the two 'haven't spoken'.

US Intelligence officials: "Only" top Russian leaders could have authorized DNC hack

Top US intelligence officials and members of the Senate say the Russians were responsible for a hacking attack on the Democratic Party's computer servers, despite Donald Trump's insistence that they weren't.
