ALEPPO EVACUATIONS RESUME

Evacuation buses and ambulances have been leaving rebel areas of the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The evacuations had been halted after a deal was threatened by the torching of buses sent to rescue people from government-controlled areas.

Hundreds of people are thought to have left rebel-held areas on Sunday, but thousands more are waiting to leave.

The UN Security Council will vote later on a compromise deal to allow UN monitoring of the evacuation process.

US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power is hopeful it will pass.

US Electoral College Set To Meet

The 538 electors making up the US Electoral College will meet on Monday to determine who will be the next president, in what is usually a mere formality confirming November's result.

In all 50 state capitols and the District of Colombia, representatives will cast ballots along the lines of how their state voted in the election, with a majority, 306, set to vote for Donald Trump.

But as our US correspondent Lorna Shaddick explains, given that Mr. Trump lost the popular vote, and after allegations of Russian interference, there has been a campaign to get the electors to vote differently.

US Senators Call For Russia Hacking Committee

A bipartisan group of US senators are calling for a new select committee on cyber attacks to be created, to look into possible Russian interference in the US election.

In a letter released on Sunday, the two Republicans and two Democrats urged the senate majority leader to create the group, to carry out an investigation into what they called 'the ultimate cross jurisdictional challenge'.

Arizona Republican John McCain, who's one of the four, told CNN that any Russian interference is a huge concern:

Obama holds end of year news conference: Aleppo, Russia, China

President Obama says he told Vladimir Putin to 'cut it out' over cyber attacks aimed at interfering in the US election.

On Friday, reports said the FBI had joined the CIA in its conclusion that US election hacking was directed by the Russians to help elect Donald Trump.

Mr Trump has disputed whether the Russians were involved in any hacking, but President Obama says the evidence is clear.
