France Set to Extend Again State of Emergency

France's Senate is expected to approve extending the state of emergency to cover next year's presidential election. 

French officials are warning the country still faces an unprecedented threat from ISIS and ISIS inspired attackers.

Rebels pull out from Aleppo as withdrawal deal reached

Obama signs cancer research bill

US President Barack Obama has signed into law the "21st Century Cures Act" which invests in cancer research and combating drug abuse.

The bill is likely the last Mr Obama will sign as President.

The act, which earned bipartisan support, earmarks some $6.3 billion dollars for health research and initiatives over the coming decade. 

The bill targets the need to invest in curing cancer, fight back against the growing epidemic of opioid abuse in the US, and improve the country's mental health resources.

UN: Rebels in Eastern Aleppo to withdraw as Syrian government reaches deal

Paris Attacks Planners Killed In Coalition Airstrike

Two men involved in the November 2015 Paris terror attacks were killed
during a US coalition air-strike in Syria. Pentagon officials confirm
the men, Salah Gourmat and Sammy Djedou, were members of the so-called
Islamic state and were plotting more attacks at the time of their
death.

Iran Starting Work on Nuclear-Powered Ships

UK Foreign Sec Johnson: Aleppo aid drops "impossible" without Russia permission

The British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson says Russia and Syria must put in place an immediate ceasefire in Aleppo...

The UN says dozens of civilians, including women and children, have been "shot on the spot" by forces loyal to the Syrian government.

In an emergency debate in the UK's House of Commons, Mr Johnson said it would be impossible for the UK to provide aid drops over Aleppo without the permission of Russia.

Uganda King Charged with Terrorism

A court in Uganda has remanded King Wesley Mumbere to prison after fresh charges including terrorism were brought against him.

Italian court jails Tunisian boat captain for role in 700 migrant deaths

An Italian court has jailed a Tunisian man for 18 years - saying he was the captain of a migrant boat that sank in April 2015, killing 700 people.

Donald Trump picks Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State

US President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Exxon-Mobil boss Rex Tillerson to be his secretary of state.

UN calls for safe passage for civilians amidst Aleppo carnage

The United Nations says Syrian pro-government forces have been shooting civilians  in Aleppo "on the spot", describing the situation there as a "complete meltdown of humanity". 

Forces loyal to Syria's leader Bashar al Assad, backed by Russia, have recaptured large areas on the besieged city of Aleppo in recent days.   It's understood thousands of civilians are trapped inside buildings in the last remaining rebel-held areas .   

The UN and aid charities are urging the Syrian government to allow safe passage out for those remaining in the city. 

Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rupert Coleville says at least 82 civilians have been killed by pro-government forces.

Civilian women and children killed in Aleppo says UN spokesperson in Geneva

The United Nations says pro-government forces in Syria have killed civilian women and children in the opposition held area of eastern Aleppo.

Reports of at least 82 civilians being shot on sight can be reliably proven according to the UN human rights spokesperson based in Geneva.
