The Obama administration opposes legislation moving forward in the Israeli Knesset (parliament) to legitimize some 4,000 homes on the West Bank, which includes 100 homes which may have been built on private land.

The Palestinians object to the bill because it moves forward the idea that Israel might annex the West Bank.

EU's chief Brexit negotiator warns deal must be done by October 2018

The European Union's chief negotiator for Brexit says the UK will have to reach a deal with the bloc by October 2018.

Michel Barnier told reporters in Brussels that time would be short for negotiations as the proposed deal will need to be ratified by the 27 remaining members of the European Union within the two year negotiating process.

He warned the UK would not be able to "cherry pick" what it wanted, such as access to the single market.

Earlier British Prime Minister Theresa May said she wanted an ambitious Brexit that was right for the UK.   Mrs May says she intends to trigger Article 50, the mechanism to leave the EU by the end of March 2017.
