LRA commander Ongwen goes on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity at the ICC

The trial of Dominic Ongwen - one of Joseph Kony's top commanders in the Lords Resistance army - is beginning at the International Criminal Court.

Ongwen is charged with 70 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes.

UN seeks record $22.2 billion in aid funding for 2017

The United Nations seeking a record twenty-two-point-two BILLION dollars in humanitarian funding for next year. 


The funds, announced in Geneva, are slated to help nearly 93 million vulnerable people in thirty three countries

Mistrial Declared in Shooting of Unarmed South Carolina Man

A South Carolina judge has declared a mistrial in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man  by a former white policeman. 

The  incident  in  April 2015  was caught on cellphone video and reignited the debate on race and policing in the US.

Donald Trump meets Al Gore over climate change

The USA's President-elect, Donald Trump, has met with Al Gore to
discuss climate change policy.

Russia & China veto UN Syrian vote

Russia and China have vetoed a United Nations Security Council
resolution aimed at bringing a temporary ceasefire to the Syrian city
of Aleppo.

It's the 6th time Russia has used its veto on a Syrian vote.

Criminal Investigation Opened in Oakland Warehouse Fire

Officials have opened a criminal inquiry into the devastating fire at a warehouse party in Oakland California this weekend. 
Thirty six people are now confirmed dead, and investigators have only been able to examine a fraction of the building's charred remains.

US oil firms criticize US Army Engineers decision to halt Dakota Access Pipeline

Brazilians protest against corruption

Thousands of people took to the streets across Brazil over the weekend to denounce corruption in Congress. 

Protesters are concerned about legislators passing amendments to a landmark anti-corruption bill, which they say are aimed at intimidating the judges and prosecutors who are leading the investigation into government corruption.

UK SUPREME COURT STARTS BREXIT HEARINGS

Britain's government argued Parliament doesn't need to be futher consulted on trigger Brexit - in day one of a key court hearing in London.

The case is being heard by the country's highest court - the Supreme Court.

It follows a ruling from a lower court that the triggering of Article 50, which starts formal negotiations on the UK's exit from the EU, must be voted on by MPs.

Japanese PM Abe to visit Pearl Harbour

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will visit Pearl Harbor this month to "console the souls" of the victims of Japan's attack there 75 years ago.

Abe will be the first serving Japanese prime minister to visit the naval base in Hawaii. Earlier this year, Barack Obama became the first sitting US president to visit the site of the US Hiroshima bomb attack.

UK Supreme Court Brexit Appeal

The UK's Supreme Court is hearing an appeal against a decision, which found that only Parliament can trigger the beginning of Brexit, and not the Prime Minister.


If the Supreme Court upholds this ruling, there will be significant implications for the British government's EU exit strategy and could cause delays to Brexit.
