New US Federal Rule Bans Smoking in Public Housing

Smoking will be banned in public housing residences in the US starting
next year. Anti-smoking advocates say the federal government's
historic decision to make the properties smoke free will protect
millions of people from secondhand smoke.

Trump makes first stop on victory tour [CLIPS]

President-elect Donald Trump has kicked off his victory tour by
announcing that he is selecting James 'Mad Dog' Mattis to be his
secretary of defense.

Mattis retired as chief of US Central Command in 2013, led operations
across the Middle East and like Donald Trump, supports a tough stance
on Iran.

Speaking in the US State of Ohio Trump said the announcement will be
made official next week.

keep their manufacturing jobs at the Carrier air-conditioning plant in
Indiana. This after brokering a deal with the company to keep them
from moving jobs to Mexico.

And in Ohio Trump vowed to make this a regular theme during his tenure

state where a Somali immigrant injured 11 people on a college campus
just days before.

Abdul Razak Ali Artan who was a student at Ohio State University was
shot dead by police after ramming his car into a crowd then began
wielding a knife.

The so-called Islamic State have claimed responsibility but
investigators say there is no evidence suggesting the link was
anything more than inspirational.

But addressing supporters Trump said that the immigration policies
made by stupid politicians were putting lives at risk.

Trump lining up Mattis for secretary of defence

Speaking on his victory tour, president-elect Donald Trump has announced that he is selecting James,'Mad Dog' Mattis to be his secretary of defense.

The announcement won't officially be made until next week but Mattis will need Congress to bypass a federal law to make the pick official.

Actor Andrew Sachs, Manuel on comedy classic "Fawlty Towers", dead at 86

The actor Andrew Sachs, best known for his portrayal of the Spanish waiter Manuel on the classic BBC comedy "Fawlty Towers", has died at the age of 86.

He'd been suffering from dementia, and his family says that he passed away in Britain last week.

Born in Germany, his family fled the Nazis and resettled in UK in 1938.

His career began with radio drama but he made his screen debut in 1959 and went on to become a familiar face on many British TV series.

But it was as Manuel, the waiter from Barcelona working for hotelier Basil Fawlty, played by John Cleese, that Andrew Sachs won worldwide fame.

He reflected on the character's success in this 2009 interview marking Fawlty Towers' 30th anniversary.

UN human rights experts warn of ethnic cleansing in South Sudan

The UN Commission on human rights in South Sudan say ethnic cleaning is well under way in the conflict, and the world's youngest nation is on the brink of a catastrophe. 


The grim assessment comes following a ten-day visit by the commission to the war-torn country.

President-Elect Donald Trump has announced that over 1,100 Americans will
keep their manufacturing jobs at the Carrier air-conditioning plant in
Indiana. This comes after the President-Elect had negotiated a deal to

a campaign promise.

However, some have criticized the move, saying it's an unusually high

US-led coalition airstrikes kill 54 civilians

Airstrikes conducted by the US led-coalition between March 31st and
October 22nd killed 54 civilians in Iraq and Syria.

That's according to the US military and comes after Amnesty
International accused the coalition of not doing enough to prevent
civilian casualties.

White House criticizes Carrier jobs deal

The White House is criticizing the deal to keep 1,000 manufacturing jobs at the Carrier air conditioning plant in Indiana.

Donald Trump is kicking off his so-called victory tour at the plant.

According to reports, the manufacturer was offered $7 million in tax breaks, and it's parent company, a major defence contractor, was worried about it's relationship with the incoming Trump admininistration.

While welcoming the jobs news, White House spokesman Josh Earnest says Donald Trump still has a lot of work ahead of him.
