Treasury, Commerce nominees confirm Trump nod

Financier Steve Mnuchin (mih-NOO-chin) and billionaire investor Wilbur Ross have confirmed to CNBC they are Donald Trump's nominees to be Treasury Secretary and Commerce Secretary, respectively.

The post of Secretary of State remains unfilled, despite a dinner between the president-elect and Mitt Romney, who ran for the White House in 2012.

Trump claims he will "leave" his business "completely", details unclear

Donald Trump says he's planning to "leave" his business "completely" in order to focus on the US Presidency.


In a series of messages on Twitter, he says the move is designed to avoid any conflicts of interest after his inauguration in January.

RBS poor performance in BoE Stress Tests

The Royal Bank of Scotland has performed the worst of all the UK's biggest lenders in the Bank of England stress tests.

Sextortion cases lead to four suicides in UK

Police in the UK say at least four men have committed suicide after becoming victims of the blackmail method known as "sextortion"...

The National Crime Agency has launched a new campaign to tackle the problem, which involves criminals using fake online profiles to persuade victims to perform sexual acts in front of their webcam, then threatening to release the footage to family and friends if they do not pay.

Donald Tusk says there can be no deal on expat rights before article 50

The European Council president Donald Tusk has written a furious public letter to a group of British Conservative MPs who've blamed the EU for reusing to guarantee the rights of UK citizens living in Europe after Brexit.

Russia awaits OPEC decision on oil production cap

Russia is absent from the Thursday OPEC members meeting in Vienna, arguing its presence is not necessary as the cartel has not overcome internal discord. Moscow signaled it would be ready to freeze its oil production at current levels, rather then cut it, while other key players argue for a synchronized oil production cut to stabilize the global markets. CHELSEA LINKED TO FOOTBALL ABUSE SCANDAL

The abuse scandal engulfing football in the UK is widening further with Chelsea now investigating allegations relating to a former chief scout.

The Telegraph newspaper says the club sanctioned a payment to a former youth team footballer who made claims of abuse.

It comes as police, the Football Association, and a number of clubs look into historic child abuse allegations related to the sport.

Police Explore 'Lone Wolf' Attack on Ohio Campus

US authorities believe the Ohio State University student responsible

UNSC to vote Weds on new, tougher DPRK sanctions

The United Nations Security Council will vote Wednesday on tougher sanctions against North Korea over its most recent nuclear test.

The sanctions include new diplomatic restrictions, asset freezes and travel bans, and measures that could cut the country's export earnings by a reported $800 million US dollars.

Supplies blocked as North Dakota governor calls for evacuation at protest site

North Dakota officials plan to block the deliveries of supplies to the protest by the Standing Rock Sioux and their supporters over the final segment of a petroleum pipeline.

The protest has been going on for months, and North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple has called for an evacuation because the brutal plains winter is arriving.

The tribe fears the pipeline could contaminate their sources of clean drinking water.

U.S. President Barack Obama is being given updates, and White House spokesman Josh Earnest says, negotiation is the way to settle the disputes.

Ohio attack probably terrorism

The Obama administration says the motivation for the attack at Ohio State University was probably terrorism and violent extremism.

U.S. officials also confirm the only fatality in the incident is likely to be the perpetrator, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, a refugee from Somalia.

Reuters reports the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility.
