Amnesty: Children killed by chemical weapons in Sudan

The Sudanese government is denying claims it has used chemical weapons against its own people, killing dozens of children...

A report from Amnesty International says more than 200 people have been killed since January.

Senior lawyer on UK's child sex abuse inquiry suspended

Britain's wide ranging inquiry into historical allegations of child sex abuse has suffered another blow after the most senior lawyer on the team was suspended from duty. 

An investigation is now underway into the leadership of Ben Emmerson QC, a set back from the inquiry which has already seen the departure of 3 chairwomen.   From London, Catherine Drew reports.

Tens of thousands of workers walk out in Belgian against labour reform proposals

Major storm takes entire Australian state's power down

Power blackouts are commonplace the world over, and whilst it not out of the ordinary for a town, a district or even a whole city to lose it's power supply due to bad weather, an entire state is a different matter.
But that's what happen to the state of South Australia on Wednesday night after 150 kmh (95 mph) winds belted the State, knocking 22 high tension electricity towers over.

Peruvian court sentences intelligence secretary to 22 years in jail

Former Peruvian Secretary of Intelligence, Vladimiro Montesinos, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the forced disappearance of a college professor and two students in 1993.

US uncertain if Russia will respond on Syria

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a phone call that Washington is prepared to suspend interaction on Syria unless Moscow changes it's tune.

US hopes MH17 report can help bring justice

The U.S. says the report from the Netherlands confirms the initial theories that Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine by Russian-backed separatists.

Russia has accused investigators of fabricating evidence.

US sanctions 2 from DRC

The U.S. has frozen the assets of two officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

One is a commander in the army and another worked with the national police and both are suspected of supporting the political violence which continues to plague the DRC.

Congress overrules Obama, allows 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia

US lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly to overrule President Obama on legislation allowing the families of the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia.

The House of Representatives followed a Senate vote earlier in the day in rejecting President Obama's veto.

US Congress overrides Pres. Obama veto on Saudi bill

Both chambers of the U.S. Congress have voted to override U.S. President Barack Obama's veto of what's called the 9/11 bill - Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act.

The legislation will allow the survivors of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia, for it's alledged role in financing terrorism.

U.S. President Barack Obama vetoed the bill in part because it violates the concept of soverign immunity - that a person can only sue a government in limited circumstances.

U.S. State Department Spokesman John Kirby says they are disappointed by the votes and they hope to maintain decent relations with Riyadh.

US deploys additional troops to Iraq

The US is sending over 600 additional troops to Iraq, to work with local forces in taking Mosul back from ISIS.

Both US and Iraqi officials have confirmed the troop increase, which is the third one since April.
