UN urges countries to respect arms embargo, support new government

Wells Fargo CEO to forfeit $41 million following scandal

The CEO of Wells Fargo will forfeit $41 million in the wake of a
scandal that's seen the US bank fire over 5,000 employees.

Bulgarian Govt Announces New UN Secretary General Candidate

The Bulgarian government has announced that it’s nominating a new candidate for the post of UN Secretary General, Kristalina Georgieva.

 Sofia says it’s also withdrawing support for its current contender in the race, Irina Bokova, who came sixth out of nine in the most recent Security Council straw poll.

"Silly thing to do" admits Sam Allardyce as he loses England job

Former England football manager Sam Allardyce, who was sacked Tuesday after being secretly recorded discussing how to get around player transfer rules,  says that "entrapment has won".
Mr Allardyce left the top job in English football just 67 days after he was appointed when he was recorded telling journalists for the Daily Telegraph newspaper  that he could help them circumvent the rules regarding third-party player ownership.   From London, Catherine Drew.

Sam Allardyce says "entrapment won" after sting


Former England football manager Sam Allardyce, who was sacked Tuesday after he was secretly recorded discussing how to get around player transfer rules,  says that "entrapment has won".

Mr Allardyce left the top job just 67 days after he was appointed, when he was recorded telling journalists for the Daily Telegraph newspaper that he could help them circumvent the rules regarding third-party player ownership.  The practice, which is banned by England's Football Association, means  an investor other than their club has a stake in a player.  

Sam Allardyce told reporters that the incident had been an error of judgement on his behalf, as he attended the meeting as a favour to an old friend.

US Presidential Debate Breaks TV Viewing Record

84 million people watched the US presidential debate on Monday night, breaking the previous record set in 1980.

Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan's showdown back then drew over 80 million viewers, but the contest between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton also saw many watch online, meaning the true viewing figures may be even higher.

Investigative Team Concludes MH17 Brought Down by Russian Made Missile

A joint investigative team says the missile that brought down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was carried into Ukraine from Russia.

The Rotterdam based investigators also say the missile was launched from Ukrainian territory that was controlled by pro-Russian separatists.

SABMiller shareholders vote through ABInBev takeover

SABMiller, the brewery which grew into a global giant from its foundations in South Africa over 130 years ago, has today been taken over in one of the largest deals in corporate history.

Shareholders in SABMiller, which grew out of Johannesburg's South African Breweries, voted in favor of the 100 billion dollar deal which will see the company taken over by the world's number one brewer, AB InBev.  

However the approval of the deal that sees the largest and second largest brewers become one company was far from a certainty as Dan Whitehead reports from London...

Swiss lawmakers approve draft bill on burqa ban

Lawmakers in Switzerland have narrowly back a draft bill in parliament to ban the Islamic full face veil - the burqa.

The motion was put forward by a member of the right-wing Swiss People's Party but still needs approval in a referendum of the Swiss people.

Moscow awaits final report into downing of MH17

Australian cricketer Max Walker dead at 68 from skin cancer

Former Australian test cricketer Max Walker was larger than life. And his death proved it.
Tributes far and wide for the universally-loved cricketer, who has died aged 68, carried a common theme.
Everybody's mate, who will be sadly missed.
Walker passed away on Wednesday after a fight with skin cancer.

At Florida rally, Donald Trump says Clinton is a "candidate of yesterday"

Elon Musk Plans to Colonize Mars


Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has revealed his plans to colonize Mars using his space transport company Space X. Speaking at the International Astronautical Congress in Guadalajara he said a crewed mission to Mars could happen in 10 years, if things go very well.
