US General Election Campaign Kicks Off With Trump Slamming Hillary Speech

After Hillary Clinton accepted the Democratic Party nomination for President on Thursday night, Donald Trump was quick to criticise her convention speech.

The Republican nominee called Mrs. Clinton's address 'an insulting collection of clichés' - that comes ahead of two campaign rallies he'll be holding in Colorado on Friday as general election campaigning kicks off in earnest.

Possible solitary confinement for Chelsea Manning

The U.S. military is considering fresh charges and fresh punishments for Chelsea Manning, after she attempted suicide on July 5.

Chelsea Manning was once known as Bradley Manning and back then, as a U.S. intelligence officer, downloaded tens of thousands of classifed documents and delivered them to Wikileaks.

New name for Al-Nusra Front

The al-Nusra Front has split from al-Qaeda.

The group has also changed it's name in a rare video from the leader.

Now they want to be referred to as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, that is, the Front for the Conquest of Syria.

The leader says going forward, the group has no ties with foreign groups, and the U.S. and Russia should stop bombing Syria.

At the U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby says Washington is not changing it's opinion about whether it's a terrorist group.

UK manufacturers' confidence down since Brexit

The confidence of UK manufacturers is down since Britain voted to leave the European Union, a report suggests.

Companies in London and the South East of England were among those who saw the biggest drop, while many more around the UK said they had not yet benefited from any business opportunities off the back of Brexit.

UK government nuclear power plant delay "bewildering and bonkers"

The British government has postponed plans to build the UK's first new nuclear power plant in 20 years...

German politicians respond to Turkish extradition demands

Two high-ranking politicians from Germany's Green party responded angrily to Turkey's demands that the country extradite supporters of Fethullah Gülen, whom Ankara has accused of masterminding a coup attempt earlier this month.

The two countries have engaged in several diplomatic spats in recent months.

Russia says starts humanitarian operation in Syria's Aleppo

Russia and the Syrian government say they will open humanitarian corridors in Syria's embattled city of Aleppo. Russia's defence minister Sergei Shoigu said they would also offer a way out for opposition groups wanting to surrender. The announcement came as Syria's President offered an amnesty for rebels who give up their weapons over the next three months. Julia Lyubova reports from Moscow.

Hillary Clinton has formally accepted the democratic nomination for US president at the partys convention in Philadelphia.

In a speech to delegates, she said the US was at a "moment of reckoning".

Hillary Clinton scorns Donald Trump as she accepts Democratic nomination


Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has made the biggest speech of her life, trying to unify the divided party at its convention in Philadelphia.

As she formally accepted the nomination, Mrs Clinton tried woo disappointed supporters of former rival Bernie Sanders, pledging to champion his progressive policies.

Several opinion polls show Mrs Clinton behind controversial Republican candidate Donald Trump.  Mrs Clinton was scathing in her criticism of Mr Trump, saying his negative campaign would not triumph:

Mrs Clinton's speech ranged across international and domestic issues. She vowed to counter international terrorist groups such as the self-declared Islamic State, and to deal with social problems at home. US urges North Korea to tone down rhetoric

The Obama administration is urging North Korea to tone down the rhetoric which is helping the de-stabilize the peninsula.

Earlier, North Korea's top diplomat said Washington has gone too far - 
That the United States has crossed the red line in the showdown," 
and that Pyongyang  regards this quote thrice-cursed crime as a declaration of war."

At the U.S. State Department, Spokesman John Kirby appealed for calm.

Oracle to Acquire Netsuite

Software giant Oracle plans to acquire NetSuite for 9.3 billion dollars.

China Says It Will Hold Naval Drills With Russia In S.China Sea

China's defence ministry has announced that it will hold what it calls 'routine' naval exercises in the South China Sea in September alongside Russia.

The move comes at a time of heightened tension, after a court in the Hague ruled that China didn't have historic territorial rights to areas of the South China Sea.

Fiat Chrysler will no longer produce small cars in US

Initial jobless claims point to more strength for US labor market

Economic data released by the United States Labor Department shows
that the jobs market continues to show signs of growth.
