EU condemns Turkey crackdown

The European Union says Turkey's crackdown on the education system, the judiciary and the media following the failed coup is "unacceptable."
High Representative Federica Mogherini said in a statement she was "concerned" by Turkey's decision to declare a state of emergency.

Russia resumes flights to Turkey

Moscow lifted a temporary ban on flights to Turkey imposed after a failed coup in the country of last week. Relations between Moscow and Ankara began to thaw late June after months of hostile rhetoric following the downing of a Russian military jet by Turkey.

SECURITY STEPPED UP AT UK MILITARY BASES AFTER 'ABDUCTION ATTEMPT'

Security has been stepped up at UK military bases after the attempted abduction of a serviceman at RAF Marham in Norfolk in eastern England.

Armed officers have also been scrambled to an army base in Wiltshire after reports three men were seen nearby with a rifle - no suspects ended up being located.

RAF Marham is an airbase used by Tornado bombers which have taken part in air strikes against the Islamic State.

Five Charged in Nice Lorry Attack

French prosecutors have charged five people in connection to last week's terror attack in Nice.

They're accused of helping provide logistical help and weapons to the driver who plowed a lorry into a crowd of people.

Unofficial Results Out From UN Secretary General 'Straw Poll'

The UN Security Council has held an informal poll behind closed doors on Thursday as part of the process of choosing its next leader, with Ban Ki-moon's term finishing at the end of this year.

There are 12 candidates for the post of Secretary General so far, and although the results aren't being officially made public, it looks like a former Portuguese Prime Minister might be in the lead.

NBA Moving All Star Game Due to Anti-LGBT Legislation

The US National Basketball Association is moving its 2017 All Star Game out of North Carolina. 

The move is in response to legislation enacted in the state earlier this year that eliminated specific anti discrimination protections for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people.

US policeman accused of shooting black man assisting autism patient

A Miami police officer is accused of shooting a black therapist while
he was trying to help a man with autism.

The Miami Police Department says they were responding to a call that
that the young man was attempting suicide with a gun.

Fox News Channel CEO Roger Ailes Is Out

The embattled CEO and chairman of Fox News Channel has resigned, following sexual harassment allegations. 

Roger Ailes founded the channel in 1996 with the financial backing of Rupert Murdoch.

US Refuses to Criticize Turkey Crack Down

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared a three month long state of emergency in the wake of last week's failed coup.

Turkey's parliament has now suspended a human rights pact with Europe and provided the government with broad powers to pursue those it accuses of supporting the coup attempt.

A wide range of academics, judges and human rights organizers have been detained.

Questioned by reporters, US State Department Spokesman John Kirby is refusing to say the  actions are "excesssive"...

Cruz Stands By Dramatic Anti-Trump Move

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is standing by his decision not to endorse Donald Trump for the Presidency during a speech at the Republican Convention in Cleveland that brought uproar to the arena.

Mr. Cruz told Republicans from Texas today that he will never endorse anyone who targets members of his family during political campaigns.
