Sturgeon raises prospect the Scottish parliament could veto Brexit legislation

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says the Scottish Parliament could veto the UK's departure from the European Union by refusing it's legislative consent.

Her comments follow previous warnings that a British government should not stand in the way of a second referendum on Scottish Independence.  Opinion polls of Scottish voters show strong support for a break with a post-referendum Britain.  Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain part of the EU while the UK as a whole voted to opt out.

It's not yet clear what legislative steps would be needed for the UK to breakaway from the European Union.   Speaking to the BBC's Sunday Politics Scotland program she said she imagined the so-called Brexit would require legislation and that she would advise her SNP majority party in the Scottish Parliament not to pass such a measure.

Britain's Labour party is chaos after sackings and resignations

Britain's opposition Labour party is in chaos after a high-profile sacking by leader Jeremy Corbyn in the wake of the UK voting to leave the European Union.     Up to half of his shadow cabinet are expected tor resign after Mr Corbyn sacked his shadow Foreign Secretary Hillary Benn.

Mr Benn had made it known he had lost confidence in Mr Corbyn and called for him to step down.   This comes as other Labour MPs had tabled a vote of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn which is due to be discussed this coming week.

Jeremy Corbyn has been blamed for being out of touch with traditional Labour supporters who voted in their millions for the UK to leave the EU, despite Labour's campaign for Britain to stay in Europe.

As he left his home, Hillary Benn told reporters how his sacking had come about.
