The Philippine militant group Abu Sayyaf says it has beheaded the Canadian hostage Robert Hall, who they have held captive since September...

The announcement came after a deadline passed for a 13-million dollar ransom for Hall and two other hostages - a Norwegian and Filipino.

They were abducted from a resort in the Philippines last September along with Canadian John Ridsdel, who was killed earlier this year.

The arrests in the capital Kampala follows intelligence that groups of people were planning attacks at police stations.

Ugandan police say the group is an organized criminal gang that includes both civilians and soldiers.

Uganda's air force commander is the most senior army officer among soldiers in detention.

Police say the arrested men are helping with investigations for their alleged role in subversive activities.

And dozens more are being hunted down following an attack at a police station in Northern Uganda on Sunday night .
Police have recovered assault riffles and a machine gun.

One government soldier was killed and 4 injured in that attack.

Three of the attackers surrendered while the rest escaped.
