US government to change law on chemical regulations

INTRO:
The US government is changing the way chemical substances are regulated.

The policy would allow the Environmental Protection Agency to
rigorously check the safety of chemicals - mainly used in household
products - before becoming available for sale.

Chinese fighter jet intercepts US spy plane

US officials say a Chinese fighter jet carried out an unsafe intercept of a US spy plane.

The aircraft incident took place in international airspace over the East China Sea on Tuesday.

Maria Sharapova receives 2 year tennis ban

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova has been banned from tennis for two years, the International Tennis Federation has announced.

The verdict comes after the former world number one failed a drug test back in January.

Sharapova said was was not aware that a heart disease drug she had been medically prescribed had been on the World Anti-Doping agency's banned list.

Maria Sharapova banned for 2 years by ITF

UK Extends Registration for EU Referendum

The British Government has used emergency legislation to extend the deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming EU referendum.


It comes after unprecedented demand on the registration website caused it to crash, meaning many were unable to sign up.

Russian artist who set security service HQ door ablaze walks free after verdict

Russian Sports Bosses Reject Latest Doping Claims in German Documentary

Russia's Sports Ministry has released a pre-emptive statement ahead of a new documentary which claims it will implicate Russia's sports minister in what it describes as 'state controlled doping'. UK Government in Urgent Discussions over Extending Referendum Voter Registration

The British Prime Minister David Cameron has said the government is in urgent discussions to try to extend the deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming EU referendum.


It comes after complaints that the website went down just hours before registration closed with the system failures thought to have been caused by a surge in demand.

EU Referendum Voter Registration Website Crash Before Deadline


The British Government is being asked to reopen voter registration for the upcoming EU referendum after the website crashed two hours before the deadline.


The system failures are thought to have been caused by a surge in demand for people trying to sign up, with over half a million registrations in one day.

UK Olympic athlete freezes sperm ahead of Rio, over Zika fears

UK Olympic athlete Greg Rutherford has frozen his sperm before travelling to the Games in Rio because of fears over the Zika virus.

The decision made by the London 2012 long-jump champion and his partner comes after a number of scientists called for the Rio Olympics to be relocated, over concerns it would spread the virus.

Key African people smuggler extradited to Italy

A man thought to be one of the most prominent people smugglers for migrants leaving Africa heading to Europe has been extradited from Sudan to Italy.

Bernie Sanders Tells Supporters He's Not Quitting

 Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is vowing to continue the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton Claims Nomination, Sanders Vows to Fight On

EU REFERENDUM REGISTRATION EXTENSION URGED

There are calls in the UK for the deadline to be extended for EU referendum voting registration - after technical problems online.

The government says a website crashed under 'unprecedented demand' as people tried to register at the last minute to be able to vote on June 23rd.

It comes as the latest polling shows a boost in support for the LEAVE campaign.

But REMAIN campaigner Tristram Hunt - an historian and Labour MP - says a Brexit would damage the UK and Europe.

Russia Builds New Ukraine Border Base As NATO Standoff Deepens

Bernie Sanders Vows to Fight On

Hillary Clinton has become the presumptive Democratic party  nomination  for President of the United States. 

But her opponent Senator Bernie Sanders told supporters in California he will continue his campaign. 

President Barack Obama called both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders on Tuesday night,  to congratulate them for running inspiring campaigns. 

And as Rachel Silverman reports from San Francisco, the White House has announced Senator Sanders will meet with President Obama at the White House on Thursday.
