EU REFERENDUM CAMPAIGN HEATS UP IN UK

Divisions in the UK's ruling Conservative Party are growing amid claims Germany was allowed to veto Prime Minister David Cameron's EU reforms.

Former cabinet minister Iain Duncan Smith says German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a 'de facto veto' which saw David Cameron ditch plans in 2014 to demand a brake on EU migration.

Downing Street insists David Cameron won significant EU reform ahead of an in-out referendum in June.

Meanwhile, a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce suggests business still backs the 'Remain' camp - but that the 'Leave' side's support is catching up.

John Mills from the Vote Leave campaign says the trend is going in the right direction.
