Helen Clark Emerges 'Among Frontrunners' For UN Secretary General Job

After 18 hours of General Assembly meetings with the nine candidates to replace Ban Ki Moon, several UN diplomats are saying Helen Clark is among the frontrunners in the race to become Secretary General.

Reuters news agency reports that the former Prime Minister was named as one of those leading the pack.

US Defence Secretary visits aircraft carrier in South China Sea

Aggression only furthers North Korea's isolation - US

The U.S. says it is prepared to defend itself and it's allies against any aggression by North Korea.

North Korea reportedly tried to launch a medium range missile which could have potentially flown as far as Guam or Alaska's Aleutian islands.

Angela Merkel allows prosecution proceedings against Comedian

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has granted permission for the possible prosecution of a TV comedian and personality.


It comes after Turkey requested he be prosecuted for a poem he read on-air, insulting the Turkish President.

Kremlin says sorry to Goldman Sachs, German paper over Panama Papers slip-up

MAJOR EU ECONOMIES AGREE TAX INFO DEAL

The EU's five biggest economies have announced a deal to share information on secret ownership of trusts and businesses, following the Panama Papers scandal.

The automatic data exchange will take place between Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain and those countries are now calling on the entire G20 group of nations to do the same.

The leak of financial data from a Panamanian law firm exposed ways in which the world's wealthy and powerful have been keeping funds hidden.

A German 'mega-brothel' has been raided by police in Berlin, Germany.


Authorities detained six people in the overnight raids for charges relating to tax fraud and alleged human trafficking. Prostitution was legalised in Germany in 2002.

Britain's EU referendum campaign is officially kicking off (on Friday), ahead of the vote on June 23rd.

Somali-American Man Pleads Guilty To Trying to Join IS

A 20-year-old Somali-American man from the US state of Minnesota has
pleaded guilty to trying to join the Islamic State and fight for the
militant group in Syria. He joins more than 80 other people have been
charged in the US since 2014 for similar offenses involving the
Islamic State.
