Brussels bomb brothers on US watch lists

Khalid El Bakraoui and Ibrahim  El Bakraoui were on American terror watch lists, U.S. officials are telling reporters.

The lists were updated after the Paris attacks in November.

UN: Humanitarian aid reaches besieged Syrian towns

The UN says Syria's besieged areas are receiving a steady delivery of
humanitarian aid in the past week, with agencies giving out vaccines
and medical supplies. Syrian officials have been granting requests for
convoys to supply aid to the most volatile areas of the country.

Malian man pleads quilty to conspiring to murder US diplomat

A citizen of Mali has pled guilty to conspiring to murder a US
diplomat stationed in Niamey, Niger.

US Treasury sanctions Iran

The U.S. Treasury has added sanctions against companies and persons working on Iran's ballistic missile program.

The sanctions come just hours after the U.S. Justice Department indicted a set of Iranian hackers.

FBI Reportedly Testing Method to Unlock iPhone


The FBI is reportedly testing a method brought to the agency by an outside party, to help unlock a cell phone used in the San Bernardino California attacks in December. 

The agency has been locked  in a legal battle to force Apple  which makes the cell phone, to write software that might help the FBI unlock it. 

But as Silicon Valley Correspondent Rachel Silverman reports, the FBI says that may not be necessary.

US Sec. Kerry heads to Brussels post-attack, US victims still unlear


The US Secretary of State is is travelling to Brussels, Belgium, to formally express U.S. condolences for the loss of life in Tuesday's terrorist attacks.

As many as 12 US citizens were caught up in the attacks, with many still unaccounted for.

John Kerry is expected to meet with Belgian and European Union officials on Friday.

UN Syria envoy aims to restart talks April 9 after wrapping up current round

KERRY TO VISIT BRUSSELS AFTER ATTACKS

US Secretary of State John Kerry visits Brussels later (Friday) to discuss the intelligence response to this week's attacks on the city.

His visit comes with criticism growing over Belgian authorities' over their handling of security issues.

Meanwhile, the country's terror threat level has been lowered from its maximum rating.

Karadzic sentenced to 40 years for genocide and war crimes

The former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has been sentenced to 40 years on charges of  genocide and war crimes.


The allegations date back to 1995 and the violent collapse of Yugoslavia, though the political leader pleaded not guilty to the charges at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

US to release secret files to Argentina

While visiting Argentina, President Obama announced that the U.S. State Department will declassify military and intelligence records related to the 1970s military dictatorship of General Jorge Rafael Videla. 

Argentina's President Mauricio Macri had requested the release of any records regarding Washington's role during those years.

US DOJ indicts seven Iranian hackers

The US Department of Justice has indicted seven Iranian hackers for attacks on dozens of banks and a dam in New York.

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said the cyber hacks took place between 2011 and 2013 and affected 46 financial institutions, threatening the free market.

One individual also hacked the Bowman Dam in New York, giving him access to the dam's water levels and flow patterns, posing a public health and safety risk.

The DOJ and the FBI worked together to pursue the hackers, who they say have links to the Iranian government.

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said that cyber criminals will be exposed.

Footballer Adam Johnson sentenced to 6 years

Former Sunderland United footballer Adam Johnson has been sentenced to six years in prison for grooming and sexual activity with an underaged girl.


The judge told the 28 year old England international that he had shown no remorse for his actions and was told that his victim had suffered severe psychological harm.

Salah Abdeslam says he will not fight extradition to France

One of the main suspects in November's terrorist attack on the French capital, Salah Abdeslam, has said he will not fight extradition from Belgium to France.


He was arrested in Brussels on Friday, four days before suicide bombers detonated explosives at an airport and metro station in the city.

Six Russian athletes set to be stripped of medals

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland ruled six Russian athletes should be stripped of their medals gained at European and world championships. 40% of deportations from UK cancelled

40% of deportations of foreign criminals and illegal immigrants from the UK are cancelled, a report has found.

In recent months several thousand plane tickets have had to be scrapped because there aren't enough staff to accompany detainees out of the country.

Radovan Karadzic Verdict

The verdict is to be delivered in the trial of Radovan Karadzic, the former Bosnian Serb leader charged with multiple counts of genocide and crimes against humanity by judges in The Hague.

Reports of a second Brussels metro attacker

Concerns are growing in Belgium after local media reported that a second person may have been involved in the bombing of the metro station on Tuesday.

Prosecutors have identified two of at least four attackers who targeted the Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station in Brussels

31 people have died in the blasts around 300 sustained injuries, with 61 people still in a critical condition in intensive care.
