German consulate in Istanbul closes over attack fears

The German consulate and a German school in the Turkish city of Istanbul closed Thursday due to an unspecified terror threat.

Tensions are running high as a key EU summit kicks off that could see closer cooperation between Turkey and the Europe.

EU Not Offering Turkey Everything it Wants

The European Union isn't going to give Turkey all it's asking for in exchange for taking back migrants.

That's according to a draft document leaked ahead of the EU Summit in which EU leaders are hoping they strike a deal with Turkey to slow the flow of asylum seekers.

Journalists to be dumped from major newspapers in Melbourne and Sydney

Australian newspaper publisher Fairfax Media has announced it's retrenching another 120 editorial positions from its three major Capital City newspapers.
The announcement has caused a furore with staff who have declared they will strike over the announcement.

Trump Predicts Riots If Denied Republican Nomination

Donald Trump has said that his supporters will 'riot' if he isn't picked for the Republican nomination even if he wins the popular vote.

Some Republicans have suggested that if Mr Trump falls short of the number of the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination, the party should hold what's known as a brokered convention- that would see party officials rather than voters would choose the nominee.

The New York property tycoon said that would cause big problems - and University of Virginia Centre for Politics Director Larry Sabato told Fox News Trump could be right.

Academy addresses racial controversies

US Federal Reserve Keeps Interest Rates Unchanged

The US Federal Reserve has kept American interest rates unchanged at 0.25 to 0.5 per cent, after the latest meeting of its Federal Open Markets Committee.

The central bank also cuts its expectations for economic growth and inflation.

EU Leader Calls for Cyprus Peace Deal

European Council President Donald Tusk says he believes in order for Turkey's EU membership talks to move forward, a peace deal must be signed in Cyprus.

Argentina sinks Chinese vessel


Argentina's coast guard has sunk a Chinese vessel for illegal fishing within its territorial waters. 

Coastguard officials said one of its vessels had fired warning shots at the ship called the Lu Yan Yuan Yu 010.

Obama nominates Merrick Garland for Supreme Court

Barack Obama has nominated politically moderate jurist Merrick Garland for the vacant seat on the US Supreme Court, following the death of Antonin Scalia.

A major political battle is brewing, as Congressional Republicans have already vowed to block the President's nominee indefinitely.

Supreme Court Justice Scalia was a strong conservative and his absence has led to a court that's about equally divided on the political fence; if Merrick Garland is confirmed, he will have the power to tip that balance.

Mr. Garland currently serves as the chief judge of the US Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia - a position he was confirmed for with overwhelming bipartisan support.

President Obama says Merrick Garland is the right man for the job.

Fifa to reclaim "tens of millions" of dollars from former officials

North Korea sentences US student to 15 years

A US student has been sentenced to 15 years hard labour in North Korea

US to keep Russia under sanctions until Ukraine regains Crimea

US State Department reaffirmed it will keep sanctions introduced against Russia after it annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea until Ukraine regains control over the "occupied" territory. UK Government says no plans to send troops to Libya

The British Government has denied that it is planning to deploy UK troops to Libya to provide security for the country's newly appointed unity government.


It comes after reports that the UK had been preparing to send around 1,000 military personnel as part of an international force.

Man killed in Brussels terror raids named by Belgian prosector

The man shot by Belgian police during anti-terror raids has been identified as an Algerian illegally living in Belgium.
