Russia pledges to keep fighting IS despite withdrawal

As first Russian war jets arrive to their home base in Voronezh, Russian Defense Ministry says it will continue fighting the Islamic State and other terrorist groups in Syria. Moscow intends to keep its advanced S-400 missile systems in place to ensure security of air and naval bases in Syria. Daria Bondarchuk reports from the Russian capital.

First Russian warplanes leave Syrain airbase

First group of Russian warplanes has left Russia's Hmeimim airbase in Syria on Tuesday following Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to start pulling out main part of Russia's forces from the country. White House: Obama and Putin Talk 'Next Steps' in Syria

In a surprise announcement Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the withdrawal of most Russian troops from Syria beginning immediately, less than six months after Moscow's planes began bombarding forces fighting the Syrian government. The move prompted a call between US President Barack Obama and President Putin, who discussed next steps to implementing a ceasefire in the war-torn country.

Update: The president of the U.N. Security Council reports all 15 members view Russia's announcement that it is withdrawing most of its troops from Syria as "positive."

California Researchers Highlight 'Flawed Conviction' Costs

Researchers in California tallied the total cost of wrongful convictions to taxpayers in the state. Their study looks into incarcerations dating back to 1989, and has found nearly 700 people who were convicted of felonies but whose cases were later dismissed, costing California taxpayers over 280 million US dollars.

Iran Calls US 9/11 Compensation Court Order ‘Ridiculous’

A spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry has called a US court ruling, ordering the country to pay compensation for the 9/11 attacks, 'ridiculous'.

Last week, a court in New York ordered Tehran to pay seven and a half billion dollars to victims of the September 11th attacks, after ruling that Iran had failed to prove it didn't help the bombers.
