UN Expresses ‘Concern’ Over EU-Turkey Migrant Plan

The UN has expressed concern over a plan being discussed by Turkey and the European Union to deal with the huge number of migrants trying to reach Europe.

The proposal would see the EU pay for all migrants arriving in Greece to be sent back to Turkey, but for every Syrian sent back there, one Syrian already in the country would be resettled in Europe.

Five Detained in Moscow for Protesting Against Ukrainian Pilot’s Trial

EU leaders near a deal with Turkey over migrant crisis

The European Union and Turkey have failed to reach a final agreement on how to deal with the migrant crisis but have agreed some broad principles following a lengthy summit.

The deal, which could be finalized next week, will see irregular migrants arriving in Greece returned to Turkey.  However for each migrant returned, Turkey wants the EU to accept a recognized refugee from Syria and offer more funding.   There are also plans to speed up the process by which Turkish citizens can travel within Europe freely.  

European Council President Donald Tusk says the proposed deal sends a  clear message that the days of irregular migration to Europe are over.   

Alexander Betts, Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs  at Oxford University says the deal is a generous one for Turkey.

Boris warns his staff to support him over Brexit battle

The office of London Mayor Boris Johnson is reportedly warning his senior staff not to speak out in favour of staying inside the European Union as the country faces a public referendum on the membership issue in June.

EU and Turkey Don't Reach Deal in Brussels

After a day of difficult negotiating and intensive back-and-fourths, European Union and Turkish leaders were unable to strike a deal at the EU-Turkey Summit.

Proposals were laid out on the table and debated, but all parties couldn't agree on a plan to try and ease the worst migrant crisis to hit Europe since World War II.

Tennis Star Maria Sharapova Admits To Failed Drug Test

Tennis Star Maria Sharapova held a press conference Monday in Los
Angeles to reveal she failed a doping test during the Australian Open
in January. The 28-year-old said she was not informed that a medicine
she had been taking for a decade to improve her health was added to a
list of banned substances for professional athletes.
