Mexico: Prison riot leaves dozens dead


At least 50 people have been killed in a riot and a fire at a prison in the state of Monterrey in northern Mexico. 

The cause of the incident is not yet known.

In huge scientific advance, physicists and astronomers record the sound of black holes colliding

Scientists in the United States say they have finally proved one of Einstein's theories and found direct evidence that when two black holes collide they create gravitational waves that bend the flow of time.

The discovery, revealed in Washington on Thursday, is being hailed as a huge scientific achievement.

Russia says US planes bombed Syria's Aleppo on Wednesday

LEAD:

Russia's Defence Ministry says that two US aircrafts had bombed the Syrian city of Aleppo on 10 February and that no Russian planes were operating in the area.  It comes in response to Pentagon's accusation that Russian and Syrian government forces destroyed Aleppo's two main hospitals with airstrikes. US restrictions on lithium batteries over safety fears

The US transport agency wants to restrict shipments of lithium-ion
batteries on planes over fears they could explode mid-flight.

The batteries are often found in small portable devices, such as

European stock markets have been trading sharply lower as concerns persist about the health of the global economy.

Asian shares fell earlier, after comments from US Federal Reserve boss Janet Yellen which were gloomier than expected on the health of the American economy.

'4 YR OLD BRITISH BOY' IN ISIS EXECUTION VIDEO

A boy thought to be British and four years old has appeared in a new Islamic State video, apparently detonating a bomb which kills four prisoners.

He's thought to be Isa Dare - son of a woman from London who converted to Islam and traveled to Syria three years ago.

The video also contains an ISIS commander making threats against Britain.

CDC reveals strongest link to date that Zika causes birth defects

One of the US's most senior public health officials has revealed the "strongest evidence to date" of the effect on babies of the Zika virus.

Dr Tom Frieden, head of the Center for Disease Control, said data from the cases of two infants in Brazil who died soon after birth indicated the virus had passed from mother to child.

But testifying before politicians in Washington, he said more tests must be done before the link can be proven definitively.

US Justice Department files civil rights lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Missouri.

The US Justice Department is filing a civil rights lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Missouri.  

Ferguson came into the spotlight after the police shooting of Michael Brown in August 2014.  

It comes a day after the Ferguson City Council rejected a proposed deal for justice system reforms.

The lawsuit accuses the Ferguson justice system of engaging in practices that deprive people of their constitutionally protected rights. 

Attorney General Loretta Lynch says their investigation found those practices were driven in part by racial bias.
