Trump and Sanders triumph in New Hampshire primaries

Donald Trump has won the Republican primary election in New Hampshire, and Bernie Sanders has beaten Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party contest.


It's a huge win for Mr. Trump that rekindles his Presidential hopes….and a big loss for Mrs. Clinton.

Supreme Court Deals Setback to Obama's Power Plant Regulations

The United States Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the Obama adminstrations’s effort to combat climate change by regulating emissions from coal-fired power plants. 

More than half the states and dozens of corporations and industry groups are challenging the Obama administration plan. 

As Rachel Silverman reports, the case is likely to return to the Supreme Court after an appeals court considers their expedited challenge.

New Hampshire Goes To The Polls

Republicans and Democrats in the US are continuing the process of choosing the candidate they want to run for the White House in November.

This Tuesday, it's the turn of the northeastern state of New Hampshire, which is holding a so-called primary vote to determine its choice.

The state's rules allow the 44 per cent of its voters who are independent to participate in either party's primary, meaning the race can be unpredictable.

Chris Galdieri, an assistant professor of politics at St. Anselm's College and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, explains the process:

US to send dozens of military advisers to Afghanistan

The U.S. military is planning to send dozens more military advisers to Afghanistan, the Washington Post reports.

U.S. President Barack Obama had promised to pull American forces out of Afghanistan, but in recent weeks, the Pentagon has been openly admitting, deployments to Afghanistan are under review.

Mexico: Gas blast frees captive migrants

Migrants who were being held captive by a criminal gang in the northern Mexican city of Reynosa managed to escape after a gas explosion ripped through the house where they were being kept. 

Five of the men held hostage were from Guatemala. Three of them were hospitalized after the blast.

German authorities seeking cause of deadly train crash

At least nine people are dead and close to one hundred injured after two trains collided in Germany. 

Authorities are investigating the trains' black boxes but haven't yet found the cause of the crash.

At least 9 dead in German train crash

At least 9 people have been killed and dozens of others injured after two passenger trains collided head-on in the southern German state of Bavaria.

 Some passengers are reported to be very seriously injured.   Emergency teams are at the scene trying to rescue people still trapped in the wreckage. 

Both trains were partially derailed following the crash which occurred about 60 km south east of Munich.

Second Shooting in Dublin

A second shooting has taken place in Dublin, in what is believed to have been a retaliation move in a gang turf war.


Last week a 33 year old man was shot dead at a weigh-in for a boxing match. Dissident republicans, the Continuity IRA, were thought to be responsible for this first attack, but have since denied any involvement.
