Poland relaunches investigation into Smolensk plane crash

Poland is relaunching an inquest into the Smolensk plane crash which could eventually see the president of the European Council, Donald Tusk on trial.

96 people died in the crash, including Poland's then president and dozens of Poland's most senior military officials.

ASSANGE CALLS FOR RETURN OF PASSPORT

Julian Assange has urged Sweden and the UK to abide by a UN ruling that he should be released from detention in London.

The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention decided his stay in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London is against his will.

However, Sweden and Britain both deny Mr Assange is being detained and insist he will still be arrested and extradited to face sexual assault charges if he leaves the embassy.

The Wikileaks founder has been taking refuge in the building since 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden.

Mr Assange says it's been a long ordeal since he was first arrested over the sexual assault and rape allegations.

Russia and Turkey engage in war of words over Syria

Russia and Turkey have stepped up a war of words over Syria. Moscow accused Ankara of trying to conceal illegal military activity on Syrian border. Turkey claimed Russia's trying to divert attention from its criminal actions in the country. The allegations came one day after the Syria talks called in Geneva to find a solution to the Syrian conflict were suspended until the end of February. Spain confirms Europe's first Zika case

Spain has confirmed the first case in Europe of a pregnant woman
infected with the Zika virus.
The health ministry says the woman recently returned from Colombia -
one of the Latin American countries where the virus is spreading.

Democrats debate ahead of New Hampshire primaries

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders debated for two hours on MSNBC ahead of the New Hampshire primaries (February 8).

Bernie Sanders is well ahead in the state polls, but Hillary Clinton was not giving any ground.

The first point of debate was on who is actually a progressive Democrat.

UN claims Rwanda training refugees to topple Burundian President

The United Nations has accused Rwanda of training Burundi refugees to
overthrow the Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza.

A group of experts has gathered testimony from a group of refugees who
say they received military instruction.

FAA Declares SF Bay Area "No Drone" Zone

The US Federal Aviation Authority has declared the San Francisco Bay Area a “no drone” zone on Superbowl Sunday.

Authorities say they’re concerned the proliferation of inexpensive, easy to fly drones is raising new security threats around large public gatherings.

UN Peacekeepers in Central African Republic under investigation for sexual abuse allegations

United, Delta allow flight crew to drop routes to Zika-areas


United Airlines is allowing crew members to be reassigned from routes to areas affected by the Zika virus outbreak. 

The change in policy was revealed in an internal memo from the airline, obtained by Reuters

The mosquito-borne virus is particularly dangerous for pregnant women as it linked to neurological birth defects.

Americans filing for unemployment benefits rise

The amount of people in the United States applying for unemployment
benefits has risen amid fears of an economic slowdown.

DONORS PLEDGE BILLIONS FOR SYRIAN CRISIS

Donors have announced billions of dollars in funds for people affected by the Syria crisis.

World leaders and diplomats gathered in London to commit money.

The EU has promised $3.3bn, the UK $1.7bn and the US has pledged $925m.

Much of it will be spent on humanitarian supplies like food and shelter.

But countries which neighbour Syria are also due to receive assistance to deal with the influx of refugees.

Russia Suspects Turkey of Preparing Syrian Invasion

Honda recalls more cars in North America

Honda is expanding its North America recall of late-model vehicles equipped with potentially defective Takata air bags.

The Japanese automaker said a further 2.23 million vehicles from model years 2005-2016 are being recalled to replace driver side inflators.
