UN Peacekeepers in Central African Republic under investigation for sexual abuse allegations

The United Nations mission in the Central African Republic is
investigating allegations of sexual abuse by its peacekeepers. A
report was released by the Human Rights Watch organization detailing
the victims' testimonies this week.

Australian government ready to increase refugee monitoring

Australia's federal government has indicated that it's considering increased monitoring of refugees and cutting direct access to permanent residency.

Colombian President meets with US counterpart

United, Delta allow flight crew to drop routes to Zika-areas


United Airlines is allowing crew members to be reassigned from routes to areas affected by the Zika virus outbreak. 

The change in policy was revealed in an internal memo from the airline, obtained by Reuters

The mosquito-borne virus is particularly dangerous for pregnant women as it linked to neurological birth defects.

Americans filing for unemployment benefits rise

The amount of people in the United States applying for unemployment
benefits has risen amid fears of an economic slowdown.

Initial jobless claims jumped by 8,000 last week and comes just a day

DONORS PLEDGE BILLIONS FOR SYRIAN CRISIS

Donors have announced billions of dollars in funds for people affected by the Syria crisis.

World leaders and diplomats gathered in London to commit money.

The EU has promised $3.3bn, the UK $1.7bn and the US has pledged $925m.

Much of it will be spent on humanitarian supplies like food and shelter.

But countries which neighbour Syria are also due to receive assistance to deal with the influx of refugees.

Russia Suspects Turkey of Preparing Syrian Invasion

Russia's Defence Ministry on Thursday said that their information led them to suspect that Turkey was preparing a military invasion into Syria.

Honda recalls more cars in North America

Honda is expanding its North America recall of late-model vehicles equipped with potentially defective Takata air bags.

The Japanese automaker said a further 2.23 million vehicles from model years 2005-2016 are being recalled to replace driver side inflators.

Syria donor talks underway in London

Leaders from around the world are gathering  in London for a donors conference on Syria in a bid to raise 9 billion US dollars for refugees and the neighboring countries hosting them. 

70 world leaders including German leader Angela Merkel are attending the conference hosted by the UK, Norway, Germany, Kuwait and the United Nations. 

The conference will have an emphasis on providing education to refugee children and job opportunities.

Reports suggest UN panel rules in favour of Assange


A British media outlet is reporting that a UN panel will rule Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been "arbitrarily detained" after he took refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, 3 and a half years ago. 

The BBC is reporting the UN's Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which will formally report Friday, has agreed with Mr Assange's claims that his refuge amounts to arbitrary detention.

EU countries agree 3.35 billion dollar fund for Turkey to help with refugee crisis

European Union countries have approved nearly three and a half billion dollar to be paid to Turkey in exchange for support in tackling the EU's refugee crisis.

Shell to cut 10,000 jobs

Europe's biggest oil firm, Royal Dutch Shell, has confirmed it's
cutting 10,000 jobs, after the collapsing oil price sent its profits
plunging.
It made 1.8 billion dollars in the fourth quarter last year - compared

Russia admits to new casualty in Syria

ASSANGE TO 'HAND HIMSELF IN ON FRIDAY'

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange says he'll hand himself in to UK police on Friday if a United Nations board does not rule that he has been unlawfully detained.

He made a complaint to the UN's Working Group on Arbitrary Detention in 2014, which is due to announce its findings on Friday, although they are not binding for UK or Swedish authorities.

Julian Assange has been inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over sexual assault claims he denies.
