UK PM Cameron: "real progress" on EU deal

The British Prime Minister David Cameron says a draft deal on the UK's renegotiated membership of the EU shows "real progress" but there is " work to do"...

European Council President Donald Tusk has published the document - which includes an "emergency brake" for EU states on in-work benefits for migrants.

Iowa behind them, US candidates head to New Hampshire

Hillary Clinton has been declared the official winner of the Iowa Caucuses, but only by the narrowest of margins over the socialist Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders.


On the Republican side, Senator Ted Cruz upset the race by beating Donald Trump - both men are now heading to New Hampshire, where voters go to the polls a week from today,

France and Belgium agree to set up anti-terror cooperation

French and Belgium have agreed to intensify cooperation to fight against terrorism following a meeting of the two countries' Prime Ministers in Brussels.
 
The Paris attacks which killed 130 people in November 2015, claimed by the Islamic State terror group, were planned in the Belgian capital.

Draft deal on Britain's relationship with the EU to be published

European Council president Donald Tusk is to publish a draft deal
rewriting Britain's relationship with the European Union on Tuesday -
ahead of an in or out referendum on the country's membership.

German government condemns 'shoot migrants' comment

The German government condemned a remark by a right wing politician that police should be allowed to use firearms to secure the country's borders.

The country is struggling to manage the largest influx of migrants in Europe.

UK blames Russia for "prolonging" Syrian war

The British Foreign Secretary accused Russia of fanning the humanitarian crisis in Syria and prolonging the civil conflict in the country. Negotiations on peaceful resolution of the political and military stalemate between the warring sides of the Syrian conflicts are underway in Switzerland. The groups opposing the Syrian government demand Russia halts bombardments in order for the talks to succeed. Daria Bondarchuk reports from Moscow.

Ted Cruz has won the Republican Iowa caucus, beating his rival Donald Trump into second.

UK - EU REFORM DEAL TO BE PRESENTED

A so-called 'red card' system to veto unwanted EU laws has reportedly been agreed as part of the UK reform deal with the European Union.

EU Council president Donald Tusk is set to reveal a draft arrangement for Britain's relationship with Brussels.

It will be put to leaders at an EU summit on the 18th and 19th of February.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron would then be expected to hold an in-out EU referendum in June this year.

However, Donald Tusk has warned of some 'outstanding issues' which are thought to relate to Britain's attempts to curb welfare payments to migrants.

Obama administration to ask for more money to defend Europe

Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has won the Iowa caucuses, with Donald Trump and Marco Rubio in a near tie for second place.

He thanked the many Christian conservatives of Iowa for his win.

Huge numbers of Iowans lined up to participate in the caucuses, the first event which actually counts in the nominating contest to be the next president of the United States.

Ben Carson was once leading in the polls, but faded after a series of poor performances at the debates.

World health emergency for zika virus

The rapid emergence of zika virus infections has put the disease in the same category as Ebola, a public health emergency of international concern, says the world health organization.

Brazil says, there have been at least 4,000 cases of zika infection since October and that number is expected to rise.
