White House defends Iran Nuclear deal as 'implementation nears'

The White House says the Iran nuclear deal is a clear example of how a diplomatic approach can enhance national security.

The comments from administration spokesperson Josh Earnest on Friday come amid tensions between the two nations after Iran briefly detained US sailors who had drifted into Iranian waters.

Implementation of the nuclear agreement is expected to happen in the coming week although the exact date has yet to be announced.

Nigeria launches investigation into missing girls

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an official investigation into the kidnapping of 219 schoolgirls by suspected Boko Haram militants from the north-eastern town of Chibok.

The Buhari administration has appointed National Security adviser Babagane Munguno to head a 10 member committee to look into the circumstances and the government's response.

A city in Germany has banned male asylum seekers from its public swimming pool after receiving complaints of sexual harassment.

U.S. Nuland in closed door Ukraine talks with Putin’s aide

The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is holding closed-door talks on Ukraine with Vladimir Putin's aide Vladislav Surkov, in Russia's Kaliningrad region.

Al Shabaab Attacks Kenyan Soldiers at AMISOM Base

Alshabaab claims over fifty Kenyan peacekeepers were killed in the gunfire.

Alshabaab reportedly drove a car loaded with explosives into the African Union base before the bombs went off. 

A heavy fight broke out at the base with Kenyan soldiers. 

Al Shabaab claims to have killed fifty Kenyan soldiers. But Kenya says, Al shabaab also suffered casualties

The base is located not far from the Kenyan border.

Kenyan soldiers are part of the African Union force, fighting Alshabaab in Somalia.

LONDON POLICE HUNT HEIST GANG MEMBER

London police admit they are still searching for clues to the identity of a man involved in the biggest burglary in British legal history.

On Thursday three men were convicted of involvement in the $20m heist in London's Hatton Garden jewellery district last year.

Four ringleaders had already pleaded guilty to playing a part, and they all face jail.

But one man is still on the run.

The gang gained access to a lift shaft, before drilling through a metre-thick concrete wall to get into a vault, ransacking dozens of safe deposit boxes for jewellery and valuables.

Kerry condemns Jakarta attack (clip) - US Embassy closed

The US Embassy in Jakarta will remain closed on Friday following a series of explosions and gun attacks in the heart of the Indonesian capital on Thursday.

At least two civilians and five attackers died.

Russia says it supports results of the WADA investigation

US releases more prisoners from Guantanamo Bay

The United States has released ten more prisoners from the controversial Guantanamo Bay jail in Cuba.

That brings the number of detainees at the facility to below a hundred.
