EU discusses Polish media crackdown

Top European Union officials are holding talks in Brussels to discuss new Polish laws which are cracking down on the media in the country.

All 28 European Commissioners will attend the meeting to decide whether the European Union should take action against the Polish government.

Denmark to confiscate refugees' valuables to pay for housing costs

The Danish Parliament is expected to pass a law on Wednesday that will severely limit the rights of refugees - and force them to hand over valuables to pay for their accommodation.

Top US, Russia diplomats meet UN Envoy for Syria for talks

Obama makes his final State of the Union address

US President Barack Obama has defended his legacy while striking an optimistic tone for the future in his final State of the Union address.

Speaking before the US congress he pushed back against the negative tone of the current presidential race, arguing the US has the "strongest economy in the world".

He highlighted his achievements such health reform and reopening diplomatic relations with Cuba in a bid to cement his legacy.

He took aim at Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump who has been criticised for his comments about Muslims and immigrants.

US regulators reject VW diesel car fix

UN says urgent medical evacuation needed for 400 patients in Madaya

About 400 hospital patients in besieged Madaya, Syria need to be
