FRESH FLOODS HIT SCOTLAND

Fresh flooding in Scotland has caused homes in Aberdeenshire to be evacuated after the River Don burst its banks.

Water levels in some areas are at record highs - after weeks of sporadic heavy rainfall in the north of the UK.

The latest flooding episode is causing major disruption.

Mein Kampf returns to Germany

A new edition of Adolf Hitler's manifesto Mein Kampf has been published in Germany for the first time since the end of the second World War. 

The Nazi dictator's book entered the public domain after the expiration of its copyright, effectively ending a ban by German authorities.

Obama defends executive actions on gun control at town hall meeting

US President Barack Obama has defended his push for tighter gun measures at a nationally televised town hall meeting.

He took questions from the public as he pressed for support for the executive measures he announced on Tuesday, which include tightening background checks for gun buyers and better licensing for sellers.

The President said the rules must be the same for anyone selling guns.

UN: Syrian government greenlights aid deliveries to Madaya, other hard-to-reach areas


The Syrian government has approved humanitarian deliveries to some of the hardest-to-reach and besieged areas in Syria, where people are said to be facing starvation and death.


The United Nations on Thursday said Damascus had approved urgent aid access to areas including Madaya, Foah and Kefraya.

Kerry to China: no more "business as usual" with North Korea

The US is calling on China to end what it calls a "business as usual" approach to North Korea in light of Pyongyang's claim to have tested a hydrogen bomb.


Secretary of State John Kerry says he told the Chinese Foreign Minister that the country must now toughen its attitude towards its traditional North Korean ally.

U.S., South Africa resolve AGOA differences over poultry imports

The U.S. and South Africa have resolved their long-standing issues over poultry imports which have prevented the full implementation of the recently renewed AGOA deal.

AGOA is the African Growth and Opportunity Act, intended to spur development in Africa, by fostering trade, but South Africa was threatened with being kicked out of the trade agreement if the chicken dispute could not be resolved.

Saudi, Iranian relations worsen

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran worsened after Tehran accused Riyadh of damaging the Iranian embassy in Yemen.

At the same time, for the United States, the two Middle Eastern powers are critical to the diplomatic process to resolve the crisis in Syria and the fight against the Islamic State.

Confirming that Syria talks are set to resume January 25 in Geneva, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also insists, the foreign ministers of both Saudi Arabia and Iran have promised him, their public differences will not impact the Syria peace process.

NYPD settles lawsuits over Muslim surveillance

US confirms two Guantanamo detainees relocated to Ghana

Iran accuses Saudi Arabia of Embassy attack in Yemen Capital



Iran has accused Saudi forces of firing missiles into the Iranian embassy in Yemen's capital on Thursday.  

Iran's foreign minister "strongly condemned" what he called a Saudi air strike on the Iranian embassy in Sana.  

The minister says the attack damaged the building and wounded a number of guards.  

Saudi officials say the strikes are targeting rebel-controlled missile launchers being used to fire rockets into Saudi Arabia.
