Paris canal drained for cleaning

Paris authorities have drained the city's Canal Saint Martin - for a cleaning that happens once every 10 to 15 years.
The mud at the bottom of the canal has turned out to be full of surprises - including bikes, wheelie suitcases and street signs.

EUROPEAN STOCKS FALL OVER CHINA FEARS

Trading on Chinese mainland stock markets has been halted for the second time in 2016 after further sharp falls.

A new 'circuit-breaker', which is designed to ease volatility, kicked in within the first hour of trading.

Investors have not been reassured by the Chinese government's attempts to shore up the markets and encourage higher economic growth rates.

China's central bank has also moved again to weaken the yuan, in an attempt to boost exports.

European stocks have fallen in response to Chinese concerns, as Olly Barratt reports from London.

UK Prime Minister makes appeal to Germans

UK Prime Minister David Cameron travelled to Germany to try and rally support for his proposed changes to the European Union.

Paris marks one year anniversary of Charlie Hebdo attacks

The people of Paris are commemorating the one year anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. 

Mourners are also laying flowers at a number of sites across Paris where people were killed during the attacks.

CAMERON PRESSES GERMANY FOR EU REFORM SUPPORT

UK Prime Minister David Cameron is again urging Germany to back his calls for EU reform, particularly over benefits extended to migrants.

Mr Cameron is visiting Germany to push for changes in the UK's relationship with the EU, which he has pledged to secure before holding an in-out referendum on British membership.

He wants to restrict access to some benefits for migrants - although he faces significant opposition from several EU member states.

Alabama judge attempts to ban gay marriage

US Military Delays Adding Women Into Special Forces

US officials refuse to confirm North Korea's claims

U.S. officials are looking very carefully into the claims by North Korea that it successfully detonated a nuclear bomb, but refuse to confirm those claims for now.

A seismic event measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has been recorded which could indicate, Pyongyang did carry out a nuclear test.
