CAMERON THANKS US FOR JIHADI JOHN AIR STRIKE

Killing the British militant known as Jihadi John in Syria was the right thing to do, according to UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

US forces targeted an Islamic State vehicle near Raqqa thought to be carrying Mohammed Emwazi, with an air strike.

Killing the British militant known as Jihadi John was the right thing to do, according to UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Mr Cameron says it is not yet certain that Mohammed Emwazi - who became known as Jihadi John - was killed in a US air strike in Syria.

But he's thanked US forces for targeting a vehicle near Raqqa thought be carrying Emwazi.

Mohammed Emwazi was born in Kuwait before moving to the UK at the age of six - and has featured in a series of Islamic State videos involving the beheading of hostages.

US military sources say they are confident the British militant known as Jihadi John has been killed in an air strike near Raqqa in Syria.

The strike was targeting a vehicle in territory held by the Islamic State, and the US says it had been tracking the militant.

Mohammed Emwazi became known as Jihadi John after appearing in several videos of beheadings of western hostages.

He was born in Kuwait but moved to the UK at the age of six.

Russia set to learn Olympics fate

Russia will find out later this Friday whether its athletes will be banned from next year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro over doping allegations.

The athletics world governing body, the IAAF, meets later to decide whether to suspend the country after an independent commission found evidence of what it called 'state sponsored' doping.

And as Lorna Shaddick reports from Moscow, Russia is claiming any problems were down to previous sports leaders.

US officials "99% sure" that Jihadi John killed in drone air strike

Senior US officials say they are confident that the British fighter with Islamic State known as Jihadi John was killed in an American drone air strike on Syria.


The Pentagon says the British government was informed about the operation, and notified families who loved-ones were executed at Jihadi John's hands.

US believes "Jihadi John" may have died in drone attack on Syria

Reports in the Washington say the Pentagon believes that US forces may have killed the British-accented ISIS executioner known as Jihadi John.


He was targeted by an American drone airstrike on the Syrian city of Raqqa (PRON:  RUCK-AH).

US college students hold rallies, protests over racial tension

College students across the US have been staging walk outs and rallies to express their solidarity with students at the University of Missouri — where the president was pushed to step down this week for what activists called his "inaction" after a series of racist incidents.

US Special Forces On Mount Sinjar, Preparing Strike on ISIS

US Special Forces have been working with Kurdish forces on Mount Sinjar in Iraq, targeting a stronghold of the Islamic State organization. 

The on-the-ground advisers are part of an international team supporting efforts to re-take Sinjar town,  at the base of the mountain. 

They are readying an attack by thousands of Kurdish peshmerga fighters.

Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook says that since November 11th there have been 36 strikes on Islamic State targets around Sinjar.

Britain has signed a series of trade deals with India on what is being described as an 'historic' visit to the UK by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Arrests in bid to break up jihadist network linked to Norway-based terrorist

13 people have been arrested in raids across Europe in an-Italian led operation to crack down on a suspect jihadist network.
