Runaway blimp crashes in trees, sparking power outages on America's East Coast

More than 20 thousand people on America's East Coast are without power after a multi-million dollar military blimp came free from its moorings in Maryland.


F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to chase the blimp, which is used to monitor America's civil defenses and detect enemy cruise missiles.

Tensions in Zanzibar after election annulment

There's tension in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar after election results there were annulled.

Claims of voting irregularities come as counting continues in national elections, which have posed the strongest challenge to Tanzania's ruling party in over half a century.

Correspondent Dan Ashby, who's in semi-autonomous Zanzibar, says the nullification has cast doubt over the entire process.

South Carolina fires "school takedown" sheriff's deputy

A South Carolina sheriff's deputy has been fired after throwing a black teenager to the floor of her classroom after she disrupted an algebra class.


Video of the incident went viral and the officer is now facing an FBI investigation.

UK Foreign Secretary in Saudi Arabia

The UK's Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond has arrived in Saudi Arabia for a key visit to discuss the crisis in Syria and conflict in Yemen.


However it comes at a time of strained relations between Britain and Saudi Arabia after the UK stopped a deal for prison training with the Saudi Ambassador to the UK calling it an alarming change in attitude.

US drugstore giants set to merge

US drugstore chain Walgreens has announced it's set to acquire rivals
Rite Aid in a deal worth $17.2 billion dollars.

And while the plan will be looked at closely by antitrust regulators-

Volkswagen reports first quarterly loss in fifteen years

Volkswagen has issued a full year profit warning, as the cost of repairing its cars that were at the centre of the recent emissions scandal starts to hit its earnings.

Australian manhunt comes to an end after 8 years

A manhunt in Australia's south east has ended with the arrest on Wednesday of father and son fugitives Gino and Mark Stocco.
The two have been on the run for 8 years, but the search has intensified in the last two weeks since they fired at Police near Wagga Wagga in southern New South Wales.
