New Liberal PM for Canada

Canada has elected a Liberal government for the first time in nearly 10 years, after Justin Trudeau's party secured a majority in the nation's federal election.

UK Steel Sector Hit By Job Cuts

The UK Steel sector has been dealt another blow, after Tata Steel announced 1,200 job losses at two of its plants.


The industry is blaming cheap Chinese imports for the dip in steel prices and UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said he will raise this issue with China's President during his state visit this week.

Chinese President on State Visit to UK

Chinese President Xi Jinping has been welcomed to the UK by members of the royal family and British politicians in a huge ceremony to mark the state visit.


The UK is pushing for closer relationships with China and the President was treated to the traditional pomp and fanfare, including a 41 gun salute.


But many human rights campaigners in the UK are dissatisfied about this visit and how the British government is reaction as our UK Correspondent Natalie Powell reports…

Top U.S. military commander arrives in Iraq

The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, has arrived in Iraq to assess the situation and for talks.

The U.S. has been re-evaluating it's strategy against the Islamic State, which controls large swathes of Iraq and Syria.

Greece's creditors begin bailout assessments in Athens

Senior officials Greece's biggest lenders are assessing the whether Athens has implemented the required reforms to receive  2 billion euro slice of its 86 billion euro bailout. 

The European Commission, the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Stability Mechanism are all in Athens to inspect the progress on the deal which prevented Greece from exiting the single currency euro, in July.

Refugees and migrants stuck on Croatian-Slovenian border allowed to cross

Around 5000 people who were stranded on the Croatian-Slovenian border have now been allowed to cross into Slovenia.

Many refugees and migrants had been forced to sleep in the open in wet and muddy conditions while the Slovenian government only allowed 2500 people to enter their country per day.

Australian detention centre monitoring call dismissed by immigration minister

John Kerry to head to the Middle East this week

US Secretary of State John Kerry will be meeting Middle Eastern leaders this week amid growing tensions in the region.
The US State Department says details are yet to be finalized but he will hold meetings about the crisis in Syria and is also likely to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the violence in Jerusalem.

US agrees to clean up radioactive Spanish site

Nearly 50 years after the original accident, the U.S. has reached an agreement to clean up a Spanish island where four American nuclear bombs fell - but did not detonate.

In 1966, two planes collided over Palomares, and two of the four American atomic bombs on board broke apart, scattering highly radioactive plutonium over a 200-hectare (490-acre) area.

US Judge Set to Decide Whether To Re-Start 9/11 Guantanamo Trial

US confirms death of Khorasan official death

The White House is confirming that an American airstrike lead to the death of one of the highest-ranking leaders of the Khorasan Group, a Saudi national also known as Sanafi al-Nasr.

The Khorasan Group had a goal of carrying out terrorist attacks in the U.S. or Europe, with ties to the al-Nusra Front, the Syrian group with allied to al Qaeda.

At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest noted this is one example of how the U.S. and allied air campaign is succeeding in northern Syria.
