US gun store ordered to pay $6m for 'straw buyer' gun sale

A US gun shop has been ordered to pay close to $6m in damages for
selling a firearm that badly injured two police officers.

In 2009, Badger Guns sold a gun to a "straw buyer", in fact buying the
weapon for a teenager who would go on to shoot two officers.

British nurse "critically ill" after Ebola virus returns

A British nurse who made an apparent recovery after contracting the Ebola virus late last year is now critically ill in hospital after it was discovered the virus is still present in her body.

EU says Europe is "exceptionally easy" for refugees to access

European Council President, Donald Tusk, says Europe's exceptionally easy access is one of the main pull factors for refugees as the EU tries to tackle the migrant crisis.

Prince Charles to visit Australia and New Zealand

Prince Charles' office has announced that the Prince of Wales and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall will visit Australia and New Zealand next month.

UK FISCAL CHARTER EXPOSES LABOUR DIVISIONS

The UK's finance minister George Osborne is now openly courting potential rebels in the opposition Labour Party ahead of a key vote.

It comes after a U-turn from Labour's shadow chancellor John McDonnell on supporting the government's proposed Fiscal Charter to balance the economy.

Labour were set to back plans to force future governments to run budget surpluses during periods of growth - but have now decided against doing so, angering some Labour MPs.

George Osborne is now telling 'moderate' Labour members to support his plans in a House of Commons vote later.

The debate had been billed as a showdown between Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, but three other lesser known candidates sought to use the exposure to give lift to their underdog campaigns.

The five candidates hoping to get the Democratic party's nomination to run for President have been debating in Las Vegas.

Issues of gun control, college tuition, the criminal justice system, economic inequality and Syria were all on the agenda, with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton taking the lead on many topics.

Australia says it won't be bullied by Russia over MH17

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says her nation won't be bullied by Russia about the downing of MH17 over eastern Ukraine.
Ms Bishop says Australia and other nations are working towards the best way to set up a tribunal to bring those accountable to justice.
Her comments come after a Dutch safety board report found the Malaysia Airlines flight, carrying 298 people including 38 Australian citizens and residents, was shot down with a Russian made-missile in July 2014.

White House says "strong indications" Iran violated UN resolution

The White House has chastised Iran for violating U.N. resolutions on ballistic missile testing but said those transgressions have no bearing on the administration's nuclear deal with Tehran.
Iran conducted the tests at the weekend, a move that the White House said very likely violates U.N. Security Council resolutions. 
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was no coincidence that this happened on the same day that the Iranian parliament signed off on the nuclear deal.

Japanese governor revokes approval for US air base relocation


The Japanese government says it will push ahead with plans to relocate a US air base to a new location within Okinawa, its current site.

This despite the Southern Island's governor revoking approval for work needed for the project.

Some 50'000 US troops are currently based in Japan.

Locals have called for the base to be moved from Okinawa entirely.

Three killed in latest series of Jerusalem attacks


Three people have been killed and many more wounded after a series of attacks in Jerusalem.

Two Palestinians carried a shooting and knife assault on a bus, before a later incident involving a stabbing in another part of the city.

One attacker was killed another arrested by Israeli security forces.

These are the latest incidents in an escalation of violence in Israel which some have labelled a Palestinian Intifada or uprising.
