UK FISCAL CHARTER EXPOSES LABOUR DIVISIONS

The UK's finance minister George Osborne is now openly courting potential rebels in the opposition Labour Party ahead of a key vote.

It comes after a U-turn from Labour's shadow chancellor John McDonnell on supporting the government's proposed Fiscal Charter to balance the economy.

Labour were set to back plans to force future governments to run budget surpluses during periods of growth - but have now decided against doing so, angering some Labour MPs.

George Osborne is now telling 'moderate' Labour members to support his plans in a House of Commons vote later.

Political reporter Theo Usherwood says the government is hoping to capitalize on a divided opposition.

The White House has chastised Iran for violating U.N. resolutions on ballistic missile testing but said those transgressions have no bearing on the administration's nuclear deal with Tehran.
Iran conducted the tests at the weekend, a move that the White House said very likely violates U.N. Security Council resolutions.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was no coincidence that this happened on the same day that the Iranian parliament signed off on the nuclear deal.
He added that unfortunately the violations were not new:
